Yes, the very first test.. You need a 70% on every exam and I got a 69% on my first one. Tough luck. Can't certify at the end of the year, can't do clinicals, etc.. Basically, there is no point in taking the class.. Not to mention the money I wasted.
I have no one to blame, but myself.. I studied, but not nearly hard enough. I should have stayed home Saturday night and studied, but went out with my high maintenance girlfriend instead and got side tracked. I just had a huge meltdown and broke up with her, heh.
I'm very intelligent got a 29 on my ACT and had a 3.5 gpa last semester with pretty much no effort. I knew how to do vitals before the class even started and most of the material came to me pretty easy.. I failed the test, because of the anatomy part. I just got totally destroyed on that aspect of the test and blanked out.
I see alot of threads in this section asking about EMT-B classes and how they are. As much as you think you may know the material you have to put a bunch of time into studying or you will not pass. I found out the hard way and will be beating myself up over this for about 6 months.
On the bright side, I am only 18 turning 19 in a few months, and will have time to get my EMT-B cert and my paramedic license, before I am 21.

This is just a suggestion. There were a few students in my class when i took it that failed the first test also. They continued to take the class and signed up for the next class. I asked why they didn't just drop it and try to get their money back but they wanted to stay in so at the next class it would be slightly easier for them since they would already know the material and the proper way/order to do the skills.

You are accepting responsibility and have identified where you failed. Make the corrections (including getting the girl friend on the same page). We have all failed at things in our lives. Now you know the taste of failure. Let this be your motivation for the future.
Good luck!

The part that isn't making sense here is that you stated this was your first test. Was this the first test of the class? or you first test at the National Registry or certifying exam? The part about clinicals doesn't make sense, because in order for you to take the certifying test, clinicals have to have been completed. Also a registry test if you fail it, you have a chance for a make up and can take the test 3 times before you have to do a refresher course.
If this test was the first test of your class, you should check with the instructor and see if you can retest. If this was a certification test, then you should be able to retest. Check into that before giving up.
***EDIT*** I see you stated you can't certify at the end of the year, so this sounds like the first test of the class. Again look into being able to retest.

Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.

A guy in my academy class made it through the whole thing until the last day when we took the state test for firefighter certification. He failed by one point and there is no retest. He was fired that day.

Yeah, it was the very first test.. You need to get a 70%+ on every test or you cannot do clinicals.. And if you cannot do clinicals - you cannot certify as you know and mentioned.
I decide to bite the bullet and stay in the class.. It sucks, but this way It almost guarantees I pass every test next time.
I was pretty frustrated when I found out I failed and messed up, but I just find it funny now. It was incredibly stupid to go out and not study for this thing.. I am pretty cocky so I decided to sleep in rather than waking up and studying before the class.
Oh well, I'm young and dumb.. Live and learn as they say.

Ouch.. Somoene asked me if I would have rather failed the first or last and I responeded with definitely the first. I couldn't imagine going through the entire class and on the last day failing a test and not being able to certify.

well i would have to say you were pretty lucky cause when i took my class i had to get 80% or higher and the way i look at it is if you want it bad enough you will put your priorities first. oh yeah and wait till you get to the national now thats a hard test i think the passing rate for the first time is 30% so good luck
