VFA Grants

Does anybody have any information on the VFA grant program?

Is it still active? I didn't ever see any awards for last year.

To my knowledge the VFA program is still in existance. We have assisted many departments receive this grant in northern Illinois. Over the past few years, the money, although budgeted, rarely has gotten appropriated. I have called the DNR on several occasions and they claim that the money is there and they are awaiting finalizing applications. This has been said for 2+ years.

A friend of mine is the new liason between the governor and OSFM and he is checking into this. I will let you know what I find out.

I've also been in contact with the DNR about this and have gotten the same answer. The application period was supposed to open this past fall...still waiting.

I was told by DNR last year that the money was given to IFSI to fund the wildland firefighting classes.

We received a grant a few years ago from the DNR for a polaris ranger, i think that was back about 05 though.
