More Storage on Turnout gear

Being a newer member, my gear is a bit older (the longer coat can often get in the way)

My bunker pants do not have pockets, without getting new ones or getting too fancy, is there a way to make some (or some sort of 'add-on')? Or perhaps some other alternative for carrying a few items (I'm not trying to stock my coat/pants with lots of equipment, just a few small things).

The jacket pockets are already small and (for now) my gloves are in them when not being used

Get a glove holder. This will free up your pockets for other things.

you could also try a truckers belt or something like that with places to clip items like your gloves, flash light, tools etc.

most departments won't let you add things to your bunker gear unless it is made from nomex, but thats just what ive been told. make sure your gear is still in date and conforms to nfpa standards before you spend time and effort in altering them

I can only say that I am pretty lucky because I have gear that is fairly new (probably less than 5 years old) and I have all of those pockets and hooks and such that most seasoned firefighters have on their gear. I use all of the pockets and I plan on adding some more tools soon enough when I get them.

I really have no suggestions besides the glove strap on your coat.

This thread just makes me appreciate what I have. Not that I didn't already, but I had brand new gear ordered just for me last year and "older" gear that's damn fine as a back up.
