when i was born one of my kidneys was taken out because it didnt work properly so the other one would grow to take up the slack. im 17 right now and i have never had any complication as a result of it, i can do absolutely everything a person with 2 kidneys can do.

apparently, having only 1 kidney keeps you out of the US military which was my original plan. they didnt give me a reason why, they just said it was immediate disqualification.

im sure no one has heard of anything like this before, but could anyone do me a huge favor and figure out if this would be a problem in the fire department? i know theres a physical so im sure the doctor would ask why i have a scar on my back, its not like i can hide it. there doesnt seem to be any reason why it would keep me out but does anyone know of any circumstance where i could possibly get a medical waver to prove that it doesnt limit me in any way?

if i cant serve the people of this country i honestly dont know what im going to do with my life or even what its worth. i would really appreciate if someone could figure out some information about whether or not having 1 kidney could keep me out of the fire department.

thank you

The best I can tell you to do is ask your local fire department and see what they say. Sorry I wish I could be more of a help.

Don't worry, I can think of two guys off the top of my head that only have one kidney. It's not a big deal or disqualification, you'll be fine.

Much has changed since the ADA (Aid to Disabled Americans) law. I suggest you get an evaluation of the highest medical specialist on your condition in your area. If the doctor finds you fit for duty have them give you a letter. If questions about your condition come up during your medical then produce the letter. Often departments will set a base line so if problems come up in the future.
