Truck61, I don't usually say things like this, but it's smart-ass remarks like yours that make Firehouse Forums not worth looking at. Maybe, just MAYBE, there's departments that have more important things to spend money on than easy chairs. Not every department has a golden egg in their day room. Maybe yours does, I know mine doesn't. A lot of departments aren't "cheap" - they just flat don't have. Realize this and grow up!

I'm fighting the good fight to put sleeping quarters in our stations. I spent the night last night on a shabby old hand me down recliner that we somehow obtained, sure would be nice if we had beds. If I'm willing to spend the night to provide coverage when weather is poor, the least they could do is make a room proper for beds and sleeping.
And before anyone starts in with staffing, our voters have shot it down once already, they get a second chance in less than a month. The current staffing (volunteer) is fine unless you're having a heart attack or your home is burning...
Who knows what the people controlling the purse strings will or won't do for the original poster?

I'm with you Jack. Some people from these dept's think that money grows on trees and you can just go out and get it if you want it. Well reality check here 61. Most of the dept's in this state are volunteer and they barely have the money to keep their trucks running much less afford the comforts of new lounge chairs. Hell they are lucky they even have a lounge to put them in.
I second the comments from Jack. Grow up!! and Wake up!!!

You may want to try applying for some grant money for a building upgrade. I know there is alot of grant cash that seems to go to small departments for just that kind of thing.
I'm not sure what the process is but I'll bet if you toss out a question, someone in the forum can lead you in the right direction.
