I am interested in joining a fire department as a paramedic (when I get it), however my past history and medical conditions do not look good on an application. I have bipolar disorder however I am medicated and have been asymptomatic for a while now, and it doesn't interfere with my work ever since I started treatment. I am a great team player and work extremely well in stressful situations even when I wasn't medicated. I was medically discharged from the military due to an... episode we'll call it, when I first started to get symptoms of bipolar. I currently function perfectly fine at my current EMS job and I am on my way to becoming a paramedic, but I am worried I will be disqualified because of my medical history and my medical discharge from the military. Can anyone give me advise, I am a completely competent EMT and I know I will be just as competent and knowledgeable Paramedic. Thanks for your help guys.
