Pay attention!!!
Study Hard!!!
Take notes!!!
Dont do anything stupid.

A couple kids in my class showed up to the pregnancy class and told on kid they did shots of vodka in the parking lot to make the class go by faster. Well that one kid told another and eventually it got back to the instructor a couple days later. They were booted out.

Study, study, study. I also stopped going out with my friends when I started school but would invite them over one night a week and practice my skills assesment on them. That way, I got to hang out a bit and also got to study. Make friends with a few, if not all, of the people in your class. You will be able to utilize them for study partners down the road and may make some lasting friendships out of it. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

It isn't easy. You will be learning skills that when properly executed will save a person's life.... make a mistake, you could end up causing traumatic injury or death.

They were booted out.

On what grounds? Unless they were stupid enough to confess to doing something wrong they have every reason to be back in the class.

Stupid kids...

Let's face it people, EMT training isn't rocket science. That's not to say it isn't important or that you shouldn't study but it's certainly not anything that any reasonably intelligent student who pays attention shouldn't be able to master.

(Before anyone objects, I've been an EMT since 1984. My EMT class was an upper level college allied health course with a required research paper along with the usual basic EMT skills training. I'm intimately familiar with what the requirements for an EMT certification are.)

As the others have stated, keep your eyes and ears open. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Study your ass off and give it your all. You'll do fine. Good luck.

I think if they were dumb enough to go and brag to a buddy they were out taking shots of vodka, they deserve it. If you are going to do something that dumb, at least keep it to yourself. What did they think was going to happen. This kid was going to keep it to himself. Everyone know's that rarely happens.

I think if I was an instructor and found out people were drinking during breaks I would probably do the same thing.

There's a difference between "finding out" that students are drinking on breaks and "hearing a rumour" on the gossip grapevine a few days later that students were drinking on beak.

Innocent until proven guilty, right?

True enough.

Like I said, IMO if they wanted to drink during their break(why I don't know), they should have just kept it to themself. At least this way, unless somebody actually saw them, nobody would have known and they probably would have continued on the course. They brought it on themselves by telling a friend. Personally, I have no sympathy for them.

They were kicked out cause when confronted by the instructor they admitted to it. And the college that the class was held at has rules about no drinking on campus.

just like everyone said, study, dont wait til one month b4 the test to start studyin. read your book is about the best thing for the written, and practice the skills, when i didnt have anyone to help me study i would write out the skill sheets over and over, lol still doing that with my emt-i85. there are some test taking tips im sure everyone has but that can wait til you get closer to the test. like not reading too deeply into the questions, cyphering out the ''fluff'' and getting down to what they really wanna know. stuff like that.

Good Luck with your class, and remember if it aint clear as mudd as questions!!

I'm about half way through mine right now. Only advice I would give is to do the reading ahead of time so you get a better idea of what is going on during the lectures. It is always a huge help to me when I am better prepared.

You should get to do some ride-a-longs too...I did mine over the Christmas break and loved it.

Good luck

EMT, like DeputyMarshal said, isn't rocket science. All it takes is a little common sense, and some forethought on your part. Pay Attention, Read the book, do the homework, and practice your skills.

And also, like was said above, don't just memorize the answers, know why things do what they do, and how. Just knowing they do them, won't be enough if you decide to continue down the line later, or when your patient asks you whats going on, and the only thing you can say, is that's what my books told me in class.

I agree with the Deputy, There is no way they could have been booted out unless they were physically caught by the instructor.

On the subject.......Did you see the earlier thread about high schoolers doing EMS. It's not that tough, but you should pay attention and study...as said before.
