I graduated high school last year and immediately began going to college.....only it wasn't for fire rescue I began as a nurse. I'm a very spiritual person and I prayed for days what it is I'm suppose to do and boooom 2 days later my mother introduces me to her boyfriend who is a firefighter/medic, I've fallen in love with this career, now I'm a female and I know this is opposite of nursing this is a male dominated work field, but i love hanging with the boys, and I hate routine and I truly believe I'm here 2 help people I love patient care I've worked in doctors offices forever I just really wanted to know what it took you guys t get to where you are...maybe you can briefly explain the schooling but really I want 2 hear what it took mentally and emotionally? and also what is your take on females making it through the academy and eventually do you guys trust us on the job?

Thanks for reading Vanessa

I am in the academy and at my academy a female hasn't completed training yet. We have 2 female instructors and they are very good as firefighters. It just takes a certain individual to complete it. Here in florida we have the combat challenge (not sure if every state does) and we have to do it monthly. Involves a number of tasks and at the end you have to drag a 180 pound dummy. Honestly it isn't that hard book wise as long as you keep up with it. Physically its very demanding and one of the hardest things I have done. Just have to see what your made of. I hope you do try it out tho. Goodluck
