Can anyone tell me what the regulations are for a non IAFF Departments use of the CPAT for hiring firefighters? Our department is in the process of hiring and has been told that unless you are a IAFF department that it is a copy right violation to use the test. We've also been told the the Connecticut Fire Academy should only be testing candidates that are from IAFF licenses Departments?

If i read your question right here is my response:
The CPAT has nothing to do with the IAFF, just a state proctored test, that any JOE SCHMO can take that is willing to fork over the 150 bucks. As far as accepting it, I believe it is not site specific to just the CFA or CT. Because the CPAT is set up to national standards that don't vary by state. However, some depts. do proctor their own physicals aside from the CPAT.

The CPAT has everything to do with the IAFF, they have the copy right license for it. We are concerned that not being an IAFF Department is a problem.

We have people looking into it on the legal side, I was hoping someone out here would have personal knowledge.
