Hi guys. I am new to the idea of potentially becoming a full time career firefighter, so bare with me please! I have done alot of searching on this site lately, but still am a little unclear. If I were to enlist in the Marines and hopefully land in MOS 7051 (Aircraft Firefighting and Rescue), then what exactly would be the next step following the 4 years of service? Pursue/complete a 2 year degree? 4 year degree? Could that MOS provide me with any necessary certifications? College credits? What if I joined the Marines with this MOS, then followed that up with a random 4yr Bachelor's degree in another field, what else would be needed? Sorry I know most of these questions are very specific, and some only a Marines recruiter could answer, but any guidance at all would be greatly appreciated. Also, if I were to pursue a career in firefighting down the line, it would most likely be in southern California (SD,OC,LA), if that makes any difference.

Much appreciated, thanks!

The MOS 7051 Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Specialist is being discontinued. There are no more new Marines being put into this specialty. The Corps is phasing out the MOS and putting Civilian Contractors in place. At least this is what I told when I found out that I was being sent to NAS Pensacola for training as an Aviation Ordnance Technician (6511) instead of being sent to Goodfellow AFB to train as a 7051. You can still try and enlist for it though, but from what I hear you'll probably end up down here in sunny PCola with me.
