Sounds like you're going to have some splainin' to do to your background investigator. I don't know that anyone here will be able to gaze into a crystal ball and tell you what the outcome will be, but as I understand it there are thousands of people in line to get into the FDNY. If given a choice between someone with your exact qualifications and a clean record, and you, who do you think they will choose?
I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but from what I understand about the hiring process, you're going to have some hurdles.
On the other hand, there's a former gang member working for the LAFD right now who turned his life around and is doing pretty well. So it's certainly not impossible.
Good luck buddy. :)

As a former Background Investigator I have to agree with JLam77. The choices out there of who to hire is many. The trouble that has found you alot....I to would hire someone with a cleaner backgound. The only friend you have now is....Time. Keep your nose clean and the Badge will be yours. Hang in there and only time will tell.
Respectfully,
