I'm looking for any advice or suggestions on what to put in your turnouts. If you have any specific tools, brands, or really anything you think is a good idea to have on your person, it would be very helpful.

I carry a pair of dykes (wire cutters), a small pair of channel locks, seatbelt cutter, window punch, a universal screwdriver (philips/flat head), 1" webbbing (that can be used as a hose strap), extra PBI hood, $20 bill, and another 6' of 1" webbing with a carabiner attached to use as a rescue strap to pull a downed FF out.

In my left coat pocket I have:
Extrication gloves
Safety glasses

Right coat pocket:
3 door chocks
2 nomex hoods (a spare just in case)
In my radio pocket I have a pair of wire cutters.
Hanging from a glove strap on the front are my fire gloves
Left pants pocket:
4 head screwdriver
vice grips
allen wrenches
Right pants pocket:
40 ft of 8mm personal escape rope.
I carry all of that plus a survivor 90 degree flash light on my coat, and a vulcan on my side.

I used to carry a lot of stuff in my pockets, but have streamlined it in recent years.
Bunker pants-20 foot search\utility rope with a carabiner.
Jacket (outer pockets) Leatherman type tool, folding knife, nylon case with 2 pairs of Nitrile gloves, flashlight.
Jacket (inside pocket) notebook and pen.
When I was on the engine, I carried a strap (made from an old Scott SCBA waist strap) that had an "officers tool" (mini-halligan\lock puller without the pick) and a small bag with a multi-bit screw driver, wire ties, line cutter, lock picks (yes, I know how to use them), voltage tester, small pair of vise-grips, and electricians tape.

Three GOOD flashlights(one attached to my helmet, one attached to my bunker coat, and another in a bunker pant pocket), several door stops(they can easily be made at home with scrap wood laying around, also keep two on my helmet), a healthy length of rope with a carabiner attached, a good folding knife with a partially serrated blade like a Gerber, a Res-Q-Wrench, an additional plain collapsable spanner wrench, a pair of leather work gloves, vehicle rescue tool, a hose hook with about 2 feet of rope attached, and wire cutters with insulated handles.
I also carry a military flight helmet bag around that I keep safety glasses in, hearing protection, another pair of leather work gloves, a leatherman multi tool, a couple handkerchiefs and rags, latex medical gloves, CPR mask, a small prying bar, a small screwdriver set, channel locks, DOT hazmat book, and a change of socks and shirt. During the winter months I also add a pair of insulated work gloves, a "beanie" and thick work socks to that bag.
Geez, that's a lot of crap...lmao

I suggest foodDon't forget to change it often. A bologna and cheese sandwich on Wonder bread from the Red Cross can get pretty pungent after a couple of months.

Everyone has their personal items. The bare bones should be:
A GOOD pair of wire cutters
15-20ft. of webbing or rope
Second pair of work gloves
Leatherman type of tool
Safety glasses
Door chalks
Everything else is icing on the cake.

-- folding spanner
-- extrication gloves
-- cable cutters (the curved blade ones work better)
-- SMALL channel-locks (blues) like 6 inchers
-- 10 dollar bill if you stop at the gas station for a pop or somthing
-- rope (8mm lifeline- look at thefirestore.com)
-- knife (gerber's fire/rescue knife is nice)
-- flashlight
-- medical gloves (see tips below)
TIPS:
-- keep nomex inside the top of your helmet. there should be enough room to fold it up nice and then it doesnt take up space in your pockets or get ripped by a tool you stuff in the same pocket.
-- keep your size of medical gloves in a coat pocket, but also keep the next size up in a diff. pocket or somthing. its easier to get oversized med gloves on in case yours rip and your hands are sweaty.
-- know where your stuff is and keep it there so you aren't fumbling to find it when you really need it.
-- etch your name in your tools, or use a colored tape or paint marker so your stuff doesnt end up missing. if it does, you'll know its yours. (yes.. it does happen).

Check out www.vententersearch.com good truckie website. Go to " whats in your pockets" it has good ideas and posts. Everyone is different. Some carry alot. Some carry nothing. Figure out what works for you. Remember, the more stuff you have equals more weight, increased profile etc. Carry only what you will need NOW. Stuff that can wait 2 minutes for you to go back to the truck is better left in the truck. As for tools, i carry bailout rope, trauma shears (good for cutting just about anything) shove knife, multi screwdriver, door hooks ( for hinges) they are smaller than chocks and you can carry a handful in your pocket or on your lid, mini vise grips and lineman pliers.

It would be one of the firefighter Pocket-Tools from www.pocket-tool.com. They are also available on ebay (where you can read feedback from other firefighter Pocket-tool owners)
