While visiting the in-laws over the Thanksgiving holiday in Charleston finally got to visit the North Charleston and American LaFrance Fire Museum in North Chuck; just wanted to commend Grant and everyone else involved on a great experience, the restored antique apparatus were beautiful and the various interactive displays kept my non-firefighter family members entertained, and there was a lot for the kids to do. Had a ball, and would recommend it to anyone passing by on the way down south.

Thank you sir! I wish I would have been there to meet you. I actually was in Alabama for Thanksgiving.

I was stationed in Charleston during my hitch in the Navy.North Charleston was off limits to us for liberty.
Where is this museum and when was it opened?I am really starting to regret not going to my ship's reunion down there.

Yeah, I was looking for you, but figured you might be gone for the holidays. The staff on duty was super-nice though. I was also pleasantly surprised to see my career department represented on the patch board, LOL. Pardon me if this has been discussed previously, but is some kind of memorial for the Charleston 9 planned for this museum, or will there be one in the main history museum in Charleston proper?

Sorry for the delay in response. This must have slipped off the main page before I saw it.
We are planning a Charleston 9 memorial in the museum. It will be built with approval of the Charleston Fire Department. We want them to be involved.
Thanks again for the kind word Knight. I hope to see you again in the future. When you come down... email me direct at gmishoe@sc.rr.com and I will set up a buff tour for you downtown. I am sure you will find it very interesting.

I had the privelage of visiting the museum this past July and I was impressed with the breadth and depth of history that Grant and his group have put together. Great work guys!
I also had the opportunity to meet Grant, albeit a short conversation, and was impressed with him and the staff and their "brotherly" attitude to everyone that came in their doors.
I would definately recommend a visit to any of the brothers going to Charleston.
Again, great job, and I am sure that you will let us know when the Charleston 9 tribute/display is up and going.
