advice on Paramedic

If I wanted to become a firefighter in Baltimore, would it better my chances to get in if I were to go through Paramedic on my own and become a national registry paramedic? Or should i just apply as a basic and let them put me through the paramedic course?

And does Baltimore honor the national registry? Thanks

I cannot answer for Baltimore, but I know that already being a paramedic with paramedic experience ALWAYS helps get a job around here.
