Does any of your industrial fire brigades train for, or participates in bomb searches at your facilities?
If so what kind of training do they attend etc?

Our Emergency Response Team is made up of Operators, Maintenance workers, etc. They are trained as FF, Haz Mat Techs, Confine Space Rescue, and most are medical first responders or higher.

Thanks,
Glenn

No bomb training specifically, just some general WMD awareness type stuff...We do have procedures in place, of course, for bomb threats. One of the provisions is that the people who work in the area where the bomb is supposed to be located are supposed to help us search (the idea being that they would know if a package or device looked like it didn't belong there)

I am trained to the level of Bomb Awareness. I am aware that bombs are someone else's problem. I'll go a mile or two down the road and direct traffic while some guy wearing a 300lb kevlar body bag goes looking for the bomb.

I appreciate your responses.
I am looking for responses from Industrial Firefighters who work at an industry, refinery etc. What are there roles during a bomb threat? especially since they may have other roles in their "normal work". Do they participate in the search, or do they staff their fire and medical rigs, equipment etc?

Industrial fire brigade responses I believe may be different than "normal municipal FD's" I know some FD stage at their station until a suspious device is found.

Just looking at what others industrial fire brigades do!

Thanks,
Glenn

Well, at our facility we are both Emergency Services AND Security, so we will be handling all aspects of the bomb threat. We will conduct the search, but as I stated, it will be with the assistance of personnel who work in that area, who are more familiar with what doesn't belong there. We will also notify local law enforcement of the situation.

If a device or suspicious package is actually located, then we back off, secure the area, and hand the incident (or at least that aspect of it) over to law enforcement. We will still be heavily involved with the incident from a site standpoint, as we will maintain command, activate our Emergency Operations Center, etc., and establish a unified command with local LE. Local fire departments will probably not even be aware of the incident (we are a very large facility and handle all emergencies ourselves).

At our facilty security is tasked with the bomb stuff, Emergency Services guys goto to thier vehicles and stage in a location away from the bomb area so they are ready to respond.
