Man Who Sued For Millions In Laundry Lawsuit, Loses His Job
POSTED: 3:30 pm EDT October 31, 2007
WASHINGTON -- The man who lost a $54 million lawsuit over his missing pants has now lost his job.
Roy Pearson, who worked as an administrative law judge in the city, was ordered to leave his office Tuesday.
A judicial committee voted not to reappoint Pearson last week after a review of his judicial decisions. The committee found Pearson failed to demonstrate appropriate judgement and judicial temperament. The group also criticized Pearson for not following policy.
The committee also said Pearson's missing pants lawsuit had nothing to do with the decision.

Rick, I can't find it either. For you folks beyond the DC Beltway, Mr. Pearson reportedly has a thing about suing anyone who crosses his path improperly. In this case, he sued a drycleaning establishment for losing a pair of pants. What got everyone fired up was the Lawsuit's price tag of $54,000,000.00 That's one heck of a lot of Zeros. Predictably, he lost in Court, several times, but the oriental couple who owned and operated the Cleaning business reportedly had to sell out to pay defense costs. Since I have not heard any portly Soprano's voice on stage, I'm sure it's not over yet........ Ahhhhh, the joys of living in this day and age...........:p :p

I couldn't find the earlier thread (or was it the later thread) on this, but here is another update:
Missing Pants Case Just Won't Disappear Pearson files another petition
Updated 10:54 AM EST, Tue, Jan 6, 2009
WASHINGTON -- A former District judge who unsuccessfully sued his dry cleaners for $54 million over a lost pair of pants isn't giving up.
Roy Pearson has filed a petition with the D.C. Court of Appeals, requesting that the case be reheard again -- this time by a nine-judge panel.
Pearson had argued that Custom Cleaners, which was owned by the Chung family, failed to live up to its promise of "Satisfaction Guaranteed."

Three appellate judges agreed in December that Pearson failed to show the store's advertising amounted to fraud and said his argument defied logic.
In asking for a hearing before the entire court, Pearson argues the three-judge panel failed to address all the issues raised by his appeal.
Pearson did not immediately respond to an e-mail seeking comment Tuesday. Phone calls to his home went unanswered.
"Mr. Pearson's petition is sad and unfortunate. Amazingly, despite two resounding defeats, Mr. Pearson has, once again, decided to prolong the needless agony of this case for the Chungs, for the D.C. taxpayers and for everyone involved," said the defendants' attorney, Christopher Manning. "The Chungs and I hope the D.C. Court of Appeals will deny Mr. Pearson's petition and will put this case to rest in this jurisdiction. Most importantly, the Chungs and I call on Mayor Fenty and the D.C. City Council to amend the very vague and often unfair DC Consumer Protection Act so that cases like this cannot happen again."

jonathan Today at 4:47 PM I fell sorry for anyone that had that idiot for a judge. They should go back and look at every case he heard and made judgments on. If he is this stupid, can you just imagine what kind of judge or lawyer he was? Now think, how many more are out there doing the same jobs that are just like him? There should be higher standards for judges and lawyers and they need to be checked, somehow, on a regular basis. Just because Mommy & Daddy could afford to send them to law school and they cheated or bought their way thru. People like this man should never have gotten pass the bar exam or even made a judge for matter.
Joe Today at 4:09 PM He's gotta be brain damagedHe's gotta be brain damaged
Denise Today at 4:06 PM This gentleman has been taken seriously and dismissed as ridiculous enough times that he should get the message. Has anyone thought about bringing suit against him to determine if he is of "sound mind and judgment?" I concur that he should be ordered to pay ALL costs associated with his repeated attempts to harrass this couple and the system - ALL COSTS for EVERYONE concerned. This guy is giving "frivilous lawsuits" an entirely new meaning!
tulip Today at 3:23 PM shut up. buy a new pair and give us taxpayers a break. ok you idiot.shut up. buy a new pair and give us taxpayers a break. ok you idiot.
Susan Today at 3:20 PM Come on people a " nine judge panel " what a waste of time and money,,,Come on people a " nine judge panel " what a waste of time and money,,,
Chainsaw Today at 2:54 PM Make him pay ALL court costs, not just for defendants, but the court itself (at this point probably millions) and maybe he will go away. He's like a mosquito that won't quit until he gets swatted...
Brandy Today at 2:36 PM I think once the couts hear him from what he has to say instead of looking at the $ seriously, he just might go away. Just take him seriously for the moment.I think once the couts hear him from what he has to say instead of looking at the $ seriously, he just might go away. Just take him seriously for the moment.

Carol Today at 2:16 PM While I understand that under the legal system one is allowed to appeal the decisions of the courts if they disagree. However, it is very clear that Mr. Pearson has a mental health problem, which is of concern to me since he was a judge at one point. Let it go, Mr. Pearson, and move on with trying to find a job. Stop spending taxpayer's dollars. While I understand that under the legal system one is allowed to appeal the decisions of the courts if they disagree. Tom Today at 2:10 PM Aren't you happy this idiot is no long an administrative law judge, sitting on a bench, deciding any kind of cases
Pam Today at 1:50 PM Perhaps they should make him pay ALL of the court costs for these hearing... I think it's rediculous that our tax dollars have to pay for a 3rd hearing over something this petty!
Jim Today at 1:36 PM A system where loser pays all the court costs would take care of most frivolous lawsuits. That is the way it is in most countries...
heinz Today at 1:18 PM It seems obviouse that Mr Pearson has a mental health issue. I am sure he would disagree, but the same society that maintains a system for the adjudication of rights and wrongs would agree that what he is doing is wrong. Morality aside does anyone beleive that 1 man should get more money than he would make in a lifetime over a a pair of $5.00 pants. [$5.00 being the actual cost of the material to make them] They other thing is how does someone know he suports Obama and what is that relationship have to do with the lawsuit?
Monique Today at 12:51 PM I cannot believe this BS! I see where my tax money is going to!I cannot believe this BS! I see where my tax money is going to!
Jack Today at 12:46 PM This man should be ashamed of himself, as well as our legal system. They should flat out ot refuse to accept his appeal.
Samuel Today at 12:41 PM Pearson please come to my house and I'll GIVE you a pair of pants. Reason being I am tired of the whole thing and you haveing your ARSE hung out for all to see!. However, you may have to sew 3 or 4 of my pants together to get all of you in there. Too bad it was not a hat that was lost because, you wouldn't have anything to hold it up anyway. STUPID MAN!
Redtopp Today at 12:38 PM Why do the Courts keep humoring this sort of stupidity? We have enough case in the system as it is...important, vital cases... he needs to climb into his big pants and zip them up over his big dumb head! I bet this man's family is so ashamed of him they've probably changed their name by now! Don't give him one thin dime..if anything, make him pay for each and every time the court had to spend electricity and time on him... Make him pay for each day he's in court..that would make him go sit his stupidddazzz down somewhere..like in a Looney Bin! It must be evident by now that this man needs psychiatric help -- or a woman! lolololololol ...
Becky Today at 12:28 PM I say we should collectively file a class action law suit against this greedy nut case for all the mental anguish he has caused the metro D.C. area citizens. One million dollars for every person who has suffered any form of anxiety reading about this parasite.
What an Idiot Today at 12:26 PM and what a WASTE of taxpayers money!!!! I can NOT believe this has drug on this long. When will the judicial system say enough is enough. I can not believe this fool has tried to sue this hard working family for an outrageous amount over a pair of pants. Sounds more like he wants them out of the country, which I believe has possibly already happened, because from what I remember, the family decided to close down their family business. Where is the justice???
VA Today at 12:22 PM Liberals are such dips.
Anonymous Today at 12:18 PM yes, he should be disbarred, or sanctioned, for unnecessarily clogging the courts' calendars. or he's mentally ill and needs to be heavily medicated or committed to the booby hatch.
