I work 48/96 and am looking to start a part time business. Not looking to get rich but an extra grand a month would be great. Need low start up cost aswell since I just bought a new truck.
So what are you doing?

JR, I work for AHIT (American Home Inspectors Training Institute). We have trained A LOT of firefighters to become home inspectors. We offer live classes in 38 locations across the US as well as online classes (depending on your state's licensing requirements). Home Inspection is a business you can get into quickly with very little start up cost and can easily be worked into a firefighters schedule and done part time. For more info, e-mail me at nkomp@ahit.com

JR,
I work for the largest home inspection training company in North America. We are actually currently focusing efforts on the firefighting community because home inspection has proven to be such a great fit for the many firefighters we have trained in the past. Our training is quick, inexpensive and we go above and beyond just training you to be a home inspector, we teach you how to market your business and provide ongoing support as well!
E-mail me at nkomp@ahit.com for more info.

Hi folks.
On my rota days off I design, develop and host websites for individuals and small businesses.
I also run a small IT support business which deals with wired and wireless networks, PC repair, upgrades and custom builds.
I did the above for years, in my brigade I always used to be the first port of call when anyones PC went wrong. I always did it as a favour expecting nothing at all in return. Got the odd crate of beer, bottle of wine etc in a way of thanks.
Then I really got into web design and taught myself CSS, SQL, php etc.
I sat and thought "Hey, I could be making money out of this!!!".
So I registered as a sole trader and so far I have been amazed at the amount of work thats came in, especially on the web design front.
I could probably leave the Fire Service and take this up full time but I love the job too much to do so, I'm going to see how things develop over the next few years and decide.
Pretty chuffed with the results so far.
I dont know if the forum rules allow posting of website links or not, forgive me if I'm not meant to do so, but here are a few examples of my recent work so far:-
www.glasgowkayakclub.com
www.firstdriving.co.uk
www.pollocksomerville.co.uk
www.indagatio.co.uk
Considering I was a complete novice to web design and development until last year, I reckon I'm doing ok!!!.
I must be doing something right as the work just doesnt stop, got another 4 web sites on the go just now to finish!!.

Tree trimmer (fellow FF owns the business).
I also work "independantly" for a couple of safety companies as an instructor, inspector, and rescue technician.
