UPDATED: 11:34 am EDT October 29, 2007

WASHINGTON -- Several people were overcome by a chemical odor in Washington on Monday.

DC Fire and EMS hazmat units were called to 2800 block of 15th Street in Northwest at about 10:40 a.m for a report of people overcome by chemical fumes.

Officials said a product used in a nearby alley may be to blame.

They said the fumes from the product seeped into a nearby building, causing people to feel sick. Several people complained of breathing difficulties.

D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Alan Etter said hazmat teams have confirmed that the area is safe.

Officials have not said why the product was used in the alleyway or what the chemical was.

The incident remains under investigation.

Several nearby streets in the area have been closed to traffic while the investigation continues.

Nah. Unfortunately I've been too dang busy to get out for my regular walks - I only get to read about this stuff in the news now and occasionally hear the trucks roll past the Embassy. And for the incident that Diane posted, I was just heading out of the office for the National Archives/Navy Memorial subway station, no time to "muck about making trouble" LOL
