Your Tax Dollars at Their Finest.
Hoping you are being sarcastic.
I am thinking that a lousy couple 203 rounds are worth more than leaving a fuel truck for insurgents to rig explosives to and use against our troops or innocent people is worth it.

You jest, but it is a viable technique. ;)
We had a major wreck three years ago out here when an LPG Super B tandem trailor rolled on a steep hill and exlpoded. The second tank didn't burst, but burned for three days because it was unsafe to extinguish and properly drain.
They took the tank after the incident to CFB Suffeild to devise a method of explosively draining the tank in just such a scenario. Basically, they place a small charge on top of the damaged tank, and a large one on the bottom. The small one blows first to vent the pressure, and then the big one blows to drain the content and flare it off all at once.
Here are the pics of the so-called "Vent and Burn" Technique.
The "Vent" part:

And the "Burn":

The end of the process a few moments later:

So next time your staring at a nasty wreck, don't call CANUTEC, say Dude, pass the Ampho!

You gotta love the guy's line:
A couple of 203 rounds "the same rounds we used in our last firefight to blow a guy up." One less scumbag in the world.
As for the aforementioned comment...... A freaking 203 round costs about a buck or two. You would prefer that these guys do what exactly?

Nah, not offended. Figured it was. Just that the one-dimentionality of the web makes it difficult to get the true gist sometimes.
Of course, if it was not sarcasm we would then be forced to hunt you down and kick your arse. :D

That was cool. I'd show to my kids except for all the cussing. Muting it doesn't have the same effect for some reason.

Ya I was too. But then I got a bit sceptical again... maybe the round just landed in the pool of fuel that had reportedly already leaked out....???? Whats the phrase? "'Close' only counts in hand grenades and nukes." :D :p

Sounds a bit high in price for what the government pays, but even so it is a lot less expensive than burying one of these folks or caring for them forever.
Besides, it gives them a little bit of peace and happiness in a world full of sh!t.

Now you know why the 1st Lt. did not let you go to town with every round you had too often. ;) I always loved seeing a shelf life for ammo and ordinance, meant at some point guys COULD go to town with few ramifications or effects on resources. :D

Looks like fun. I should ask the Sgt if we can do something like this for a training exercise. :D :D
Something tells me the answer would be no of course.

I spent three tours in the sandbox, and this is not that uncommon of an occurance. Granted it's not every day you get to blow up a tanker full of fuel. :D
Dennis is exactly right - ordinance does expire, and we are required to dispose of it properly, usually by detonation. One of my most fond memories was when our "Pajero," wich was kind of a cousin to the Mistubishi Montero, got into an accident. No one was hurt, but the truck was pretty much a loss. So we were ordered to blow it up. One of the best days ever. We also blew up an ambulance that just plain wore out. Good times.:)
