I work as an industrial firefighter and I am conducting some payscale research for upcoming contract negotiations. Our department requires us to be certified Haz-Mat techs, EMT's, Confined Space Rescue, fire protection systems, we also provide security. The security duty is a newer responsibility, that has not been addressed in the pay, training, or assignments/hiring (meaning we are strapped with min 16 hr mandatory OT/week to cover security posts). We currently have a payscale that is substantually lower than other positions within the company including those positions that require far less duties, training, certification, and skills. Our payscale is also less than other industrial firefighters within our area. I am looking for some idea of what other industrial departments are getting in regard to pay and benefits for comparable duties, training, knowledge and skill. This will allow us to go into negotiations with an avearge industry standard. Please advise.

We do security, fire, ems, and haz-mat along with conf space, trench, and anything else that comes in. We work 6 day rotations at 8 hour shifts with plenty of OT.
We make 15.95 hour plus great company benefits (GE)

I did the same description you are talking about - the gun. We worked two weeks on two weeks off, 12 hour shifts for the two weeks straight. The wage was around 25.hr, you make up your money on the overtime. It was a good gig, just boring as hell, not many runs...at all. We mostly did fire pm's and other related tasks. I retired after two years. :)

We do security, fire, ems, and haz-mat along with confined space, high angle, Industrial Hygiene, and whatever else might come up. We also do fire system pm's and inspections, as well as inspections on every shift. we make 15.50/hr, some crappy benefits, and on a swing shift. 12 hr shifts, 4 nights on, 3 days off, 3 days on, one day off, 3 nights on, 3 days off, 4 days on, 7 days off, then it starts all over again.

Holy Crap!!! Who the hell negotiated that schedule in the contract? I'm sure you get use to it but it seems difficult. What a schedule. We make about the same in an area where the cost of living is about 1/2 again more that you folks. I guess we should feel kinda screwed by the company.

That schedule is what the mill members work, the mill wants us to work the same. The cost of living here is on the lower side, it's a predominantly rural area.

Our Technicans here make between $25-30/hr and Supervisors make in the area of 60,000 to start. Tons of overtime and we work 3 on 3 off and then 4 on 4 off; 12hr shifts. We have a supervisor opening if anyone is interested but need to let me know ASAP! e-mail me at rdw930@gmail.com

I work for an industrial fd. Our payscale for the basic of FFI, EMT, Hazmat Tech is $22/hr. The majority of guys I work with are making $25/hr plus. WE get skill pay for additional certs and training.
Cheers
