A sign of the times in the ever 'fatter' UK?

Actually, its probably a good idea. Ever hear of the rule of 3's? After 3 am, the person is above the third floor, and weighs more than 300 LBS. I believe most people use the 175lb dummy. Lets be honest, aren't the majority of people that we pull out of buildings more than that? Maybe I have just been unlucky, but it would make training more realistic. Worse comes to worse, if you train with a fat dummy, and you only have to pull out a skinny person, it should be a piece of cake.

Not a bad idea at all. I know that several members of my department requested that we purchase at least one obese CPR dummy for training. Of course, that idea was nixed in favor of more Anne dolls. Of all the people I've done CPR on, only one has resembled Anne. Everyone else has been bigger... many of them [i]much[i] bigger.

That may be true, but the adrenaline of a live incident often makes up for the difference in weight.

I have done very physical jobs on scene effortlessly (i.e. pulling hose, carrying gear, moving pumps, etc.), that are a grunt on the training ground. I am sure we have all noticed that at one time or another.

175lbs feels heavy enough in training, but not with a good charge of adrenaline.

I think this is a good idea however. Adrenaline certainly won't always lift 28 stone. ;)

Only if it's an adrenaline-inducing event. Rescue during a fire? Perhaps. Cardiac EMS run? Not necessarily.

Well it looks like reality has caught up to training dummies! :)

Now I want to know when they are gonna start charging fat people twice as much for airline seats??

Or at least compensate me for having them “ooze” over into my seat. ;) TL

Sad, but true.

Sign of the times. We are going on more and more of the fatties fall down and can't get up calls.
