I know the law requires municiple departments to turn over Foreign Fire Insurance money to a board formed by the firefighters. I know the law does not require fire protection districts to treat the funds the same way.
Are there fire protection district firefighters who have a board established and are receiving the money for the 2% of taxes? I need some examples for my board of trustees.
Thanks

Sorry, not us. I don't think the district even gets any of the money.

Districts do indeed get the money. I'm just loking for examples of any that form the FF board like municipalities to be responsible for the spending of the money.
I thought I remember hearing a few years back of some doing it the way municipalities do it.

I would like to know as well. We are looking into this. At my FPD the Firefighters do NOT get it. The board gets it.

The 2% fund for F.P.D's are subject to go into the general fund because the laws regarding the forming of a firefighter board is just for municipal departments. Over the last couple of years many groups including the A.F.F.I. have been trying to have the law changed to mirrior municipal departments. Maybe this year we can do it if we all band together paid and non paid.

Jack:
YOUR FIRE DISTRICT'S money is sitting with your village board. The money in Illinois is paid to fire districts through the Illinois Municipal League and is paid to the village board.
If you haven't received any money from the village, it sounds like they have a fat check to write your fire district, because they MUST pass the money to the fire district. They cannot keep it.
We get it and put it into the fire department's checking account. It really doesn't matter; it's going to get spent.

I was Village Clerk in one of the towns we protect and I don't remember ever seeing a check for the foreign fire tax. Surely we would have gotten something in 8 years. We also protect 3 other municipalities, one of them does give us a check. I'll have to see what it is for.
What about unincorporated areas of the district? Where would that money go, to the township?
I wonder if the Municipal League would shed some light on the subject for me. Have to contact them.
