Our fire district is in need of a Hazmat Decon and WMD Trailer. Total cost of 129,800.00. Is this a project that the AFG may fund?

Link to the trailer.

Yes, it would be eligible.

Small boats (13 feet or less in length),all-terrain vehicles (ATVs),and appropriate trailers may be considered under this activity if properly justified in the narrative section of the application.

Are HAZMAT and WMD equipment and training high on the list of priorities, or would it be a loosing battle?

Not high on the list depending on your population and other stats. If you're not a high WMD risk area then it is a long uphill battle. Not impossible, just probably tougher than a truck.

Over the last 4 years DHS has sent billions to the various state Homeland Sec depts for purchase of such equipment. Some of the $ have actually trickled down to FD. Depends on the state. Much has stayed at state (or region) level buying gold plated toilets, etc. And decon/WMD contingency equipment. Contact your state homeland sec to see what they have on hand/where. And what funding they have available from FY05 FY06 FY07 (and in a few days FY08).

Likely response is they have already purchased the equipment your state needs and it is in place at _________. In which case they may (or may not) be correct so request mutual aid support and have them bring their toys out to support you in training and operations.
