Another reason not to ride in truck beds. Lets pray for a fast recovery.
DES MOINES, Iowa -- A Des Moines woman is killed and a firefighter is in critical condition after falling off the back of a pickup truck near the Lake of the Ozarks.
"When I came into work the next morning, it was quite a shock," said Lt. Larry Shaffer of the Des Moines Fire Department.
Firefighters on the south side said Station No. 6 isn't the same today. One of their own is missing B.J. Iseminger, 27, of Runnels, was camping with friends in the Lake of the Ozarks when he fell off the tailgate of a Chevrolet pickup truck in Camden County when the truck accelerated.
His friend, Lyndi Richardson, 27, of Des Moines, was also thrown and later died at the hospital. Her husband, Michael, was driving the truck.
Richardson grew up in Marshalltown and was the former manager of Legends Grill in Pleasant Hill. She is survived by a 12-year-old daughter.
Shaffer said Iseminger suffered a severe head injury, underwent brain surgery Tuesday night and is now in a drug-induced coma.
Shaffer said Iseminger is a very hard worker, fun-loving guy and is a good guy to work with.
Des Moines firefighters are by his side in St John's Hospital in Springfield, phoning back information as they get it. And they are making plans to bring him back home as soon as possible.
"Currently, Des Moines Fire Department firefighters are, when B.J.'s stable enough, we’re working on efforts to be able to fly him back home to Iowa Methodist so he can be closer to his family and they can do more things for him in that nature," Shaffer said.
A fund has been set up at the Great Western Bank in Runnels to help pay Iseminger's medical expenses.
Services for Richardson will be held Friday at Grandview Park Funeral Home.

He has had two surgeries to relieve pressure on his brain (ICP), including removal of a small portion of skull. BJ has not been awake since and his care has included intubation with self respirations, although a ventilator has been present to assist if needed
Very briefly for those who have not been to work, BJ was involved in an accident involving a motor vehicle in Missouri and received a closed head injury. BJ has not been awake since and his care has included intubation with self respirations, although a ventilator has been present to assist if needed. There has been conflicting information whether or not the intubation was continued, discontinued, or re-initiated last night. This will be cleared up when Dan and Dean arrive shortly.
