The two-alarm fire started shortly after 7 a.m. in an apartment on the second floor. Firefighters said the fire spread to other apartments through the attic. The fire is contained, but it still had some hot spots.
Fire officials said one family was trapped by the blaze and had to be rescued by firefighters.
One adult and one child were transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children.
A witness told News 13 that he heard a loud boom when the fire broke out on the top floor of one of the buildings.
"I heard a 'boom,' like a bomb and it wake me up. My sister said , 'Oh, I heard something.' My mom said it was lightning, and when my dad came out, it wasn't lightning," said Jean Cintron, a resident of the Grove Apartments
Oscar Aquino said as he was trying to get away from the explosion, he got cut by flying glass.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. However, fire crews believe it was an accident.
