Does anybody here know how the departments in the Houston (Houston, Harris Co, West University, etc) area handle lateral transfers? Are they receptive, prefer to train new, etc? Would be a firefighter/paramedic coming in from out of state.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I was a fulltime IAFF firefighter/paramedic in Ohio for 5 years. In May 07 I was hired by the Woodlands Fire Deparment which is north of Houston in Montgomery county. If you are a Nationally Registered paramedic and have your IFSAC fire certifications then you can get reciprocity in Texas without any testing. If you have a college degree then you can become a Licensed Paramedic in Texas. See the Texas Fire Commission website for fire information and job listings in the employment section. See the Texas EMS website for your ems info. We have several out of state guys on our department. Another one of my friends from Ohio just got hired outside of Dallas. Texas is a great state to live and work in. Good luck.
