CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - The Campbell County fire chief sexually
assaulted a teenage boy multiple times in the early part of this
decade, federal prosecutors alleged in court documents.
Gary Scott, 52, was arrested last week and charged with
transporting a minor across state lines with intent to engage in
illegal sexual activity. He made an initial court appearance Monday
and was ordered held without bail pending a hearing Thursday in
Cheyenne.
In a sworn affidavit filed with the court, Special Agent Robert
Leazenby of the state Division of Criminal Investigation said the
teen told investigators Scott sexually assaulted him repeatedly in
the year 2000.
Leazenby also alleged Scott told investigators last Friday that
he had sex with the boy knowing he was under the age of 18 at the
time.
It was not known whether Scott had hired an attorney, said John
Powell, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office. A telephone
listing for Gary Scott could not be found in Gillette or the
surrounding area.
"It's so early in the case, it would be difficult for me to
tell you anything specific about it until it starts to unfold in
court," Powell said. "It's my understanding that the
investigation continues in terms of looking for other incidents of
this type."
The county fire department board placed Scott on paid
administrative leave during an emergency meeting Friday night,
Campbell County Commission Chairman Craig G. Mader said Monday.
Joe Robidoux, vice chair of Campbell County's joint fire board,
said Monday that Scott was hired as fire chief in the early 1990s.

Man, I hope this isn't true. Several years ago, I provided some training to those guys. They are a great bunch. Very hospitable. This is an innovative combo FD. They cover an enormous area (approx. 1500 sq. miles) and also run haz mat, technical resuce and do a lot of wildfire work. They also run their own fire academy. As far as I know, Chief Scott is very active in the IAFC and is known nationally.

If he did it, he should go to prison for the rest of his life. There is no excuse for anyone to ever sexually assault a child. But I really hope he didn't do it.

Wyo. fire chief waives hearing, does not contest detention

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - The Campbell County fire chief accused of
sexually assaulting a teenage cadet has resigned from his job.
Gary Scott is being held in the Platte County jail at Wheatland
after waiving his preliminary hearing and choosing not to contest
his detention during a hearing in Cheyenne.
Federal Magistrate William Beaman ordered the 52-year-old Scott
to remain in custody without bail.
Scott was arrested last week and charged with transporting a
minor across state lines with intent to engage in illegal sexual
activity.
In ordering Scott detained, Beaman said that Scott posed a
flight risk and a danger to the community.
According to a police affidavit, the victim told investigators
Scott sexually assaulted him repeatedly several years ago during
trips associated with a cadet program Scott established for 12 to
18 year olds interested in firefighting.
Scott was hired as fire chief in 1991.

Well it is a good damn thing that don't allow gays to be scout leaders. How much worse would the problem be then?

That is if they put him in with the rest of the prison population. I know at some places they keep thangs like him separate, else he'd be beaten to death. But you know for the life of me I just can't see a downside to that... Something will happen though. Wait and see. Somebody will get to him.

People like this deserve to be put in with the GP for that exact reason. These sick bastards deserve to have their rear end handed to them. If I worked in a prison people like this would not come out!

Tell me about it. I wish I could be in charge of prison reform. You wouldn't hear of all this repeat offender crap. I am SO SICK of guys getting out of prison for hurting kids and then turning right around and abusing, or even killing, another victim. If they even stop at one vic.

You know, back when they wrote the Constitution, they put in there about no cruel and unusual punishments being afflicted. Now think back. At that same time, they were putting people in stocks, and tarring and feathering people. So obviously they didn't think that was cruel and unusual, because they were doing it. Darn shame that there's too many bleeding hearts for the sickos out there.

There's a sheriff in Arizona, and right now his name escapes me. He's over the jail system down there. And the repeat offender stats went way down. They get fed out and out slop. They wear pink suits, right down to the underwear, because he was sick of people leaving jail and taking their undies with them. This guy is absolutely no nonsense. Now if he was put over the entire prison system, there Would be changes.

GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - A Campbell County fire chief accused of
sexually assaulting a teenage fire cadet has resigned from his job.
Gary Scott, who was hired as fire chief in 1991, submitted his
resignation, which was accepted Wednesday by the county fire
department board, The Gillette News-Record reported Thursday. Scott
had been placed on paid administrative leave after his arrest last
Friday.
Scott waived his preliminary hearing in Cheyenne on Thursday and
declined to seek bail.
Federal Magistrate William Beaman ordered Scott, 52, held
without bail. Scott's next court appearance was pending.
Scott was arrested last week and charged with transporting a
minor across state lines with intent to engage in illegal sexual
activity.
John Powell, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office, said the
case remains under investigation.
A call seeking comment from Scott's attorney was not immediately
returned.
According to a police affidavit, the victim told investigators
Scott sexually assaulted him repeatedly several years ago during
trips taken outside of Campbell County as part of the cadet
program.
Tracey Schuh, business manager for the Campbell County Fire
Department, said the cadet program was being reviewed and changes
made to ensure cadets are in the company of at least two adults at
all times.
"We're in the process of revamping that program," she said.
Scott, whose annual salary is $101,000, created the cadet
program in 1992 for boys and girls ages 12 to 18 interested in
firefighting, Schuh said. Similar programs are sponsored by fire
departments around the nation and have been successful in
encouraging youths to become firefighters, she said.
"This program is very good for this department," she said.
"We have volunteers who have gone through it. We have career staff
who have gone through it."
The Campbell County Fire Department has 23 full-time
firefighters and about 180 volunteer firefighters.

They were interested in firefighting, and it sounds like he was interested in something else.
