Hi All,

Does Portland Hire Paramedics off the street during thier normal application period / hiring process to fill existing positions in the organization, or do they only Hire/Train Basics and Noncerts. off the bat then later down the road send certain people to paramedic training? I am asking because I cannot find any reference to FF/Paramedics on thier website/Recruitment materials and wanted to see if anyone is aware of thier practices.

Im pretty sure that PFR hire's medics. But I do not know if they will hire a lateral medic

PF&R hire medics off the regular test/list rather than the trainee list. Sorry but you medics have to go through the entire academy, no Laterals. We have to make sure you don't run FROM the red stuff (haha). After that you would have to go through an FTO to make sure you know your stuff.

As an out-of-state paramedic, is it possible to get a license in Oregon? Anyone who has done it have advice?

I've heard that a Washington EMT-B has to take the ped's and geratic portion of the class to have the Oregon EMT-B be valid
