Does anyone have any information on Appleton,WI. When are they planning on hiring off this upcoming list and how many? How many people show up for a test? Does their union have a website? Any information would be helpful.

Can't answer all the questions but regarding how many show up for a test. Not very many, under 100, possible less than that. Appleton requires some college credits just to apply, so those going onto the wriiten test all have some formal education. Not really sure of how many they are looking to hire and they might be doing a testing to establish a list, so doesn't mean they will hire for sure.
Not sure about a union website, but put Appleton fire in a search engine and you'll get some information. As for the dept, they have 6 stations, no EMS, but do do first responder, they have three on a rig (pump) not sure if three on a ladder. They are constantly training and are part of the Tech Rescue task force.

Hey Powersladder, can you hook me up with someone in Appleton so I can get some first hand information. I read your thread where you said you use to work there. How was it to work there, I am a firefighter/paramedic in Florida looking to relocate there. I was curious how hard it is to get on there.

Just curious bhughes15, Why do you want to pick Appleton if you are on FL. Hasn't anyone told you about winters up here? :)
Anyway, your choice, just curious. Although if you have the paramedic card, there are several depts that will look pretty hard at that card and your chances get better to get in. Appleton doesn't run EMS, so if you want to do paramedic, kinda out of luck, but if looking for a break then that can be the way to go.

Does anyone have any information on Appleton's written exam and their assessment center? Is their written standard civil service or fire based?

It is a standard civil service test. Since they don't require fire certifications to apply, they can't base it off of fire test questions. Basically, reading, basic math, fill in the sentence with the best word, some psych stuff (you look at a picture and have to come up with what the person is thinking....kinda stupid I think, but it was in there when I tested years ago). Anyway it is a pretty basic civil service test overall.
