Look for the book Emergency care, 10th edition.....Read it front to back, top to bottom, and side to side. Study everything you can find to study, Keep on the strait and narrow and never give up. At 18, you'll have a big jump on becomming an EMT

depending on where you are at, find an explorer program with a local fire department or even at the hospitals in your area. I was on one for the fire dept and a hospital here and learned quite a bit.

Deffinately look into a cadet/explorer program, your local FD should have one, if not get them interested in starting one. Also you can get your CPR certs, and basic first aid as well. Good luck with it!

Not to bash you at your age, but how are you taking emt-b at 13? From what I have seen, you have to be 18 and sometimes 17 is an exception. You cannot use it until you are 18 at FD or EMS agencies because "you are not mature enough at that age" or atleast thats what my EMT instructor said.

You can probably take the class at any age but i know you cant test until your 16 years old, at least thats how it is in CT. Also keeping all that info fresh for 3 years in order to test is going to be VERY hard.

Ok, let me explain how it works.
so i get to take the class, and do everything but get my certification card, emt number, and patch. so, basically by the time the class is done, i'm an emt, i just dont have to fancy paperwork. then two month's before my 18th b-day, i have to retake the class, and then i can certify. so i cannot certify now, but i can take the class. normally they dotn do this stuff. they just made execptions, and i'll probably just have to sign a liability form.
and yes, i'm from utah, it says that under my name.

I love you're enthusiasm and spirit to follow your dreams, and you will one day become a paramedic if you continue your interests, I'm certain.
But, to go to the level of thinking you're an EMT is a bit too far. Go to the class, be thankful to be able to take in the information it teaches, but don't go overboard and let it get to your head.
Continue to follow your dream. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just saying how it is. If you go around saying you're an EMT or paramedic you're going to get some weird faces and quite a few corrections from paramedics in the future.
Keep us updated, glad to hear you can attend the class!

I know in NC to take our emt-b classes you have to either be a high school graduate, have your ged, or have a 10th grade reading level.

Yeah, I understand all of that completely. But, during your time after the class. From when your 13 or 14, till your 18, you must keep up with your studying and not loose focus, because most states require a state certified test after your course, which will be taking at the age of 18
