Hello, been a member for a bit, but this is my first post.

I am looking for some new duty boots. I was picking up some pants from a local uniform shop when I came across the ATAC Shield from 511 Tactical (Link here: http://www.511tactical.com/index.asp?dlrID=511&dept=1&number=12003 ) I tried them on and they felt comfortable. I am thinking of going back and picking them up. I'm just wondering if anyone else has these, or if anyone thinks these won't be a good work boot? They are waterproof as well as composite toe and they also have a nice zipper on them for a reasonable price. The store has them for about $30 cheaper than what the 511 Tactical Store wants.

Thanks.

I just took a look at Galls, it's about the same price as what the uniform shop wants. I am less curious about price and more curious about how well these boots stand up, or if I should look for another brand?

Buy Danner boots and put a lace-up zipper in them. You will not find a better pair of boots.

I'll second the Danner's. I love my Danner Acadia's. I also wear the Matterhorn USAR boot and they are comfortable to me. Good luck!

Might want to try Redback Boots. Mine have lasted over three years with the same comfort as when they were new. Can't wear'em out.

They have a new NFPA boot also,

i have had the 5.11 shields for almost a year now....great boots held up well during the academy and havent gotten beat up to bad and use them to work outside all the time....the toe cleans up really well with some polish and once they break in they are even more comfortable...even had to wear them for pt one day when i forgot my tennis shoes and while heavier then my running shoes not at all too bad

I have a pair of Bates zipper boots that I got from Bass Pro Shops for about $70. I love them. They are comfy and are easy to get off in a hurry.

I have some slip on Red Backs that have been the most comfortable boots I've ever used. They are a great general purpose boot, just don't use them on a Wildland fire.

Yet another thumbs up for Redback Slip on's. I love mine and may never wear anything else. I was lucky enough to find them at a semi local Police/Fire Uniform store and was able to try them out before I bought them.
