View Full Version : Info on the PT Test

Can anyone give me the info on the PT test? I've seen one post saying "as many sit ups and pushups in 2 mins then do a 25 yard dash". Since I haven't got a reply from that thread just thought I would ask again.
I just did my Combat Test Task (CTT) in April. Really don't see what situps and pushups accomplish. I thought you would do the 7 flights of stairs, raise the hose roll, hit the sled, and drag the heavy manikin 80ft. In lss than 7 minutes! Something in relation to the job at hand. Leaving for Houston Sept 10th. Just trying to get the most "accurate" information as possible. But I've been in the game a long time and I guess what happens....happens. If anyone can get with me on anything it sure would be appreciated. E-mail me at Firerider69er@yahoo.com Thanks! Jim D., Kennedy Space Center Fire/Rescue

Yeah that's what you would expect for a firefighter position but no that's the honest truth about the PT test. Push ups, sit ups, and the 25 yd dash or whatever the distance is for that. It's unreal but whatever!!

h20squirter
06-06-2007, 08:13 PM
that is all that the test is. 2 min to max your situps. 2 min to max your pushups, and thena 25yd shuttle run. that's it, nothing more to it.

Alright!!!! 5 situps and 5 push ups and your done!!!! Outstanding!!! LOL Why kill yourself if theres no set amount to accomplish? Never heard of this type of PT test. I guess they want to see that if you fall down you can get yourself up!! But whatever they want.

I know for at least WSI but I think it's for KBR as well. good luck with your app!! You will be hearing from them very soon if you have all the required certs and experience

I turned in everything that Kris asked for plus some. I sent my FF1&2 and HAZMAT Awareness nd Ops with IFSAC Seals, I also sent my State Cert and A&M Cert so I should be good. So WSI and Wackenhut are the same company right? Well it dosent matter anymore my stuff is in!!! I cant wait it going to be a great experience. I have a buddy coming back right now from his first year, he was at Camp Bukka, where the prison is. He is planning on going back.

Firedawg1983
06-10-2007, 02:44 AM
alright the next step is your phone interview and then more paperwork to fill out. Do you have ARFF? Yes WSI stands for Wackenhut Services Inc. It's good over there but just be prepared. Most people aren't able to deal with it over there because it changes so much so be prepared for anything. The are a quite a few prisons and detention centers. I believe almost every base has one. How much experience do you have?

Firemed362
06-10-2007, 02:56 AM
Well I dont have a cert for ARFF but when i was attending Fire Academy at Texas A&M we worked ont eh ARFF project a couple times. Ya I Spoke with my buddy quite a bit while he was over there and im as prepared as I can be, but im willing to adjust to anything that gets thrown at me. Well I have been A full time firefighter for 5 years now, and I have been certified for 6, then had a couple years of volunteer service. What will that mean to them?

Firedawg1983
06-10-2007, 03:08 AM
well they are going to ask how many structure fires you have been in and stuff like that. You have the minimum requirements so you are good but they are going to be limited as to what you can do until you get ARFF. Pretty much you will be on an engine or tanker or mini pumper. email me for any questions about the job and firefighting over there on my email below

Hey guys, just sent my resume in to WSI, waiting on my application packet. Kris told me that all my certs are good (IFSAC). I'm not certified in ARFF but I have taken the course several times. Maybe I am certified in it? I don't know. I was wanting some information on the physical agility. I'm kind of a bigger guy, but I can hold my own. Basically the only thing I will have a problem with is the push-ups. I can do them, they are just not very good. Spoke with Kris and he said that I will have to do pushups for 2 minutes, situps for 2 minutes, 50 foot fireman carry, and 25 foot sprint 4 times. That doesn't sound that hard. I figured it would be the CPAT test.

Also, for my physical, can I go to my doctor or do I do that in Houston? Plus, any other information would be handy. Thanks guys.

Its nice that they will train you over there. But it is nice to have the ARFF, it seems to be the hardest to attain for those who have never had military firefighting experience. Like anything in the fire service be patient and keep your ears open, especially for ARFF training. Many more things can GO WRONG than you think if you don't listen to folks who have been doing ARFF for some time. But you'll get the hang of it. I've been doing this for 25 years and learn something new everyday. Somebody has always got a better way of doing things that you may not be aware of, sometimes they don't. Alot of diversity of firefighters in Iraq!!! Jim D. Kennedy Space Center Fire/Rescue

Yeah I am so glad I have my ARFF, D/O ARFF, and ARFF experience. so it should be fun over there for me. all I will have to do is an apparatus familiarization which I already know how to operate the T-3000s and mini pumpers along with the other apparatus they have there so I'm good to go. hopefully I can get started with my schooling over there ASAP

Well here we go!! See how things change on information when you ask for it. Several have asked about the PT test. So far everyone has said "as many push-ups and as many sit-ups as you can do in 2 mins and then a 25 yard run". "THAT'S IT"!!!!!!. Now MFD has said that he has talked to Chris and you do the "sit-ups and push-ups as many as you can in 2 min" NOW the 25 yard run.....YOU DO IT 4 TIMES, and perform a firefighter carry 50ft. Now which is it?? Trying to find and get "ACCURATE" information is what I'm looking for.

I guess whatever they throw at me WILL be the accurate information I get and receive. Can anyone give, or does anyone know what EXACTLY do they require of you?? I guess if I can't get the information right on this the rest is going to be a hoot!!! Jim D.

if this is a huge deal for you, you could just call Kris or Damian and ask them.

06-16-2007, 06:23 PM
it is kind of odd that no one can give an exact count for what we will have to do. i know for me that when the time comes i want to rock the pft and the only way that could happen is to know what ill be doing.

Firerider69er
06-17-2007, 10:32 AM
No it's not a big deal H2o. But accurate information would be nice. I don't care if they make you run 5 miles and jump through hoops. But I guess i'll just find out for myself. For those of us who haven't gone through the "pre sandbox rituals" at least people could give the info correctly. I guess thats the difference between experienced firefighters and those who are not.

Enough on this subject. Jim D.

I sure will let everyone know exactly what you will be doing after I'm finished. I'am all for letting people know UPFRONT what you can expect. Some of these guys you'll be working with and I think upfront and honest at first will help all of us in the end. What's there to hide, and why? There's nothing to gain, again.......brotherhood!!!! Thank's alot Firedawg!!! Let us know!! Like I said before keep in touch and maybe i'll see you over there.
Appreciate what info you pass on. But for the life of me, I can not understand why people just couldn't pass on the correct information the first time. What do they have to gain by not passing it?? We are all on here to get the CORRECT information, so we can make the best decision for ourselves and for those of us who have families.

Talk to ya later!! Jim D.

First off firerider the sarcastic undertone you are using on this thread is not a good way to start off with a new company. The whole "I guess that’s the difference between experienced firefighters and those who are not." comment was uncalled for. The reason for the inaccuracy is because it has changed. To start talking smack before you are over here is ridiculous. If you do not like change then stay home, because by the time you leave Houston to the time you get here chances are that things you heard there have changed already. That is the nature of this company and of our work environment. Before you step on your tongue again you might want to think about who reads these posts before you talk smack. Just to let you know by putting your name at the bottom of your post, which takes guts I give you that, people here will know who you are. Speaking from myself we are looking forward to seeing you soon and hopefully change your point of view about us non-experienced firefighters, or officers such as myself.

Firerider69er
06-20-2007, 09:51 PM
It's not pointed towards anyone, nor is it "smack". But you are over there and not here correct? I had asked for some information for those of us who have yet to depart. That's all. When you get a bunch saying one thing and another bunch saying something different what do you expect? If you don't ask, you'll never know. But if it has changed would it not be to much to ask for the correct info? If I offended you sorry. But I'am also in the contract firefighting business, for 17 years.
Signing my name at the end...not suppose to??? Didn't know I had to be watching my back when I got there!

Firerider69er
06-20-2007, 10:03 PM
3581...Been also working for a sub of WSI for 10years also. I do know how the company works. Believe me I won't "step" on my tongue again. But I will be watching everyone to learn and see what works and what doesn't. I have worked for many years with people who are put into positions based on the paperwork they hold. That doesn't mean they know what they're doing. My well being and safety is at the top of my list as it should for anyone over there.
But if I need to get any answers about whats right, wrong or indifferent will you advise, then?? Appreciate what you can do.

Sorry if I came off a little crude it just gets annoying hearing people talk crap that has never been here, or if they have been here was probably a turd. If there is anything you want to know about current things here in country I would be more than happy to share. Like I said things do change. When I came through Houston in October we did as many push-ups in two minutes, and as many sit-ups in two minutes. We didnt even do a run. It all depends. Like I said I read these posts and only comment when people seem to be bashing WSI. WSI is a great company to work for. However like every company it does have its faults. These forums are here to help people make life changing decisions not to vent company problems. Be a man and stand up for yourself at your site not on a website. That is how I feel about the whole thing. Thanks for the intrest you have shown just let me know if I can help. I will be more than glad to send you any information you want.

Appreciate any and all information. You are right it is a "life changing" decision. Believe me I do know that things change on a daily basis if not by the hour!! Have seen it for alot of years! For myself i just like to be prepared. Believe it or I'm the easiest guy to get along with, I just like to ask alot of questions to get the best possible answers for what I'm getting myself into. I'm committed to going and doing the best I can and to support the troops in any capacity!!! GOD.....just getting the passport thing done is a piece of work!!! But it should be here today!!!

Yes Victory does have a nice PX. Everyone is encouraged to pack extremely light. Only the basics i.e. underware, socks, undershirts, an so forth. You get alot of uniforms in Houston that you will bring over with you. Five out of the seven people in my group had to mail items home from Houston just to make weight. Another reason to pack light is the charter limitations here in country. During the summer months you are allowed two checked bags totaling 44 lbs, and one 15 lbs. carry-on. Take into consideration you will be traveling with a full set of turnout gear. I hope this info was helpful, anything else just ask.

From what I have heard from military that were there and friends that were there with WSI they got laptops over there. When are you hoping to go? I am hoping November or December myself. I wish my **** was straight last year when I was supposed to go.

Firedawg1983

yes you can buy digital cameras, laptops, TV's ect. from the PX. depending on where you are at they may have a big supply of them or some bases may have only few. I bought a laptop last time I was there and it's pretty good. I gave it to my sister and she hasn't had any problems with it. I'm going to buy another next month when I get there

Hey everyone new member here. I'm a USMC 7051 and am getting out in Oct. I have already had my phone interview and have received my packet. I was wonder if I would be able to use my Fire fighters Physical from the military. I made sure to get a new one a few months ago. Also any info on filling out all that paper work would be helpful. My tentative date is Oct 15 for anyone who might be leaving around that time.

Thanks

Hey Shrek D, where are you stationed at right now? Im visiting my twin who is stationed at Camp Pendleton before I go to Houston and Iraq. He is also a 7051. As for the physical, Wackenhut sends you a packet that needs to be filled out. Its a full exam - blood, audio, shots, eyes, etc... Take it to your Doc and have them fill it out for you while your still in. Let me know if you need help with anything. ~SP

Just a little info on the physical. Your physical cannot be older than 60 days. I just had mine at my fire dept and WSI said it wouldn't be any good when I report on Sept 11th in Houston. But check with India or Monique just to be sure.

they teach it at Camp Taji.

It was suppossed to be in Taji from day one, it went to mosul. The training grounds in Mosul sucked. So we at C-5 Taji along with alot of help from some KBR staff built a huge training ground along with fuel pit.
