I know this is probably a stupid question but does New York City have fire Department Explorers. I am just curious because I think that being in the FDNY would be the coolest thing. So if anyone knows I would appreciate the information.

I don't think they do

also-be careful what you say-you shouldn't want to be on a department just because it would be "cool"

Even if they do have an explorer program, you aren't in the FDNY. You would be observing the FDNY.

Yes, the FDNY does have an active explorer program. You need to contact the Fire Admin. Offices and they will put you in touch with the training coor. in charge of the program. The only requirements are, be between the ages of 15-19, maintain a c+ average in school and be a resident of any of the 5 boroughs or orange or rockland county. You will not be responding on any calls or spending much time in the station but it will be a good learning experience because they drill alot. My suggestion would be if you live in Staten Island look into the Metropolition Fire Association, they are a volunteer fire department on the island with a very big explorer program and let the kids ride and participate at fire scenes (within there limits of course.) Good luck and stay safe.
