Grinder wheel at my firehouse is busted, anyone have any reccomendations or pointers on cleaning/polishing up the tools?

#0000 steel wool for chrome works like magic...Adding a little polish/wax to the wool also works wonders. #00 steel wool works great on steel/iron.

just make sure that when you end up with the grinding wheel working you aren't using it to sharpen any of your tools.

Technically your not suppose to use a motorized grinder to sharpen any firefighting hand tools. The reason is the inconsistent heat of the grinding will eventually soften the metal. It is recommend that all hand tools be hand maintenanced using a file, emory cloth or steel wool.

very fine steel wool is great like mentioned before. also i find that a little Never Dull works great, its just a ton of wadding soaked in polish. depends on the surface 2000 grit sand paper and rubbing compound.
