Heading down in a few weeks for a golf trip with the boys. Any guys from there or that have been there, know of any good bars- regular and "adult"? Also looking for some good restaurants, especially a steakhouse.

If you dont go anywhere else in OCM, you GOTTA go to SEACRETS. Trust me. Do the words "Meat market" mean anything to you? The nice thing about Seacrets is that it is usually a good stop year-round, not just during the summer.

The Purple Moose is also a good stop. The Firehouse Tavern, though blase for you and I, is usually a fun stop. These are more seasonal places though. And Hooters, of course, is guaranteed to have eye candy.

Dont know about their steaks, but if they are as good as their seafood is, Phillips Crabhouse may be worth looking into.

One of the better hotels- I am thinking the Holiday Inn Oceanfront, has a nice resturant I took someone to once- I remember having good filet mignon.

one word of advice when it comes to east coast steaks, mostly maryland steaks, they arent anything great. now i come from the mid west, kansas city where we know BBQ, and what i had that night was not a steak. If your going to be in OC, have some crab or some sort of seafood. your not going to find any better crab anywhere.

There is one place, i cant remeber the name of it, that we went to and it was really good food. Its some restraunt that caught fire a few years ago, the owner rebuilt, and is back up and running. we got some deal for $25, it was all you could eat crabs, shrimp, ribs, fries, etc. It was really cool cause they just put down some brown wrapping paper on the table, poured the foot on the table in piles, and you just went at it. for some reason hoopers is in my head, but i could be totally wrong.

No, You are right, it's Hoopers Crab House on Rt. 50 in West Ocean City. My vote on the Best Restaurant in Ocean City goes to Harrison's at the Inlet. Fine Dining overlooking the inlet area. 2nd Place goes to Captain Buntings on the Bayside, at the end of Talbot St. 3rd Place award is the Bonfire on Coastal Highway, midtown. A bit pricey, but worth it. The posts above that mention a few watering holes are right on the money. I've spent a week or two in Ocean City for the last 60 (Yeah, 60) years, so I've been to a few of the Restaurants and Bars there myself.....  The Maryland State Firemens Association's Annual Convention has been held in Ocean City EVERY year since 1968, and it's usually a Firefighter Friendly place.

Callaway, Y'all going to play Eagles Landing course?? It's a good one.

And Last, ftfdverbenec: Do you folks out there realize just how much you ruin a good steak by letting it get near BarBQue Sauce?? Steaks are meant to be eaten with a tinge of Salt and Pepper applied while Grilling, and nothing else.:D :D Putting BBQ sauce on a good steak is like going to bed with a fully dressed woman..........

Harve, I will have a list of courses we're playing in a day or two, hope they're not dog tracks. Good info on the restaurants, the boys will appreciate it. None of us have ever been there, it's always Myrtle Beach. I forgot in my OP to ask about the seafood, I hear it's very good. The boys love a good hearty meal before a night of debauchery. ftfdverbanec770, that place sounds like a good one. Keep it coming, as I said, I'm going down there blind!! Thanks for the Info.

bars......there's actually too many to list them all here....what kind of bar are you looking for??? my favs include the Bearded Clam on Wicomico ST near the inlet, Purple Moose at Atlantic AV on the boards.......Seacrets is overrated by many of the locals but should be a good place to go this time of year

restaurants......Carrabba's and Waterman's, both on RT 50 in West OC, Blue Ox Steakhouse on 126th ST, Fresco's at 82d ST........Hooper's isn't bad but I prefer Waterman's

Got back a couple days ago, had a great time, real fun city. Ended up hitting Hooper's, Waterman's, and Marina Deck for crab. I liked Marina Deck the best although that's because I got the most intoxicated there. For steaks we hit Blue OX which was fantastic. Also went to La Hacienda for Mexican which was unbelievable and cheap, best Maragrita's I've had in a while. Most places closed early because it wasn't the "season" yet, but we did alright.

Seacrets was unbelievable, loaded with women. Never really made it to any other club's, but did find a pretty good bar in our hotel lobby, which came in very handy.

The Bay Club was an absolute dog track, sad excuses for golf courses. Bear Trap Dunes was a good one. Eagles Landing was nice, pretty tough. Links at Lighthouse Sound was the best, one of the nicest courses I've ever played.
I certainly needed a few extra pencils, the scores were a little elevated, mainly due to the pretty girls driving around in the drink carts, I just couldn't say no!!

Thanks for the info brothers, It made for a great trip. I'll do it again next year!!

P.S- Those cops really don't like it when you're speeding to make an 8am tee-time, although they did extend courtesy..

OCMD has attractions for all ages. THere are amusement parks, wildlife refuge, golf, night life, minor league baseball, beach and a 30+ block-long boardwalk. There is a standardbred track nearby but not sure when of their racing season. There are also some stock car tracks within driving distance as well.

They have 5 or 6 volunteer fire staions with paid EMS.... and I have never felt unwelcome there. If you ride, the MD Red Knights have a large active club in the area and a smaller club in the Rehoboth area, just a few miles up the road.

I think they have more firehouses per city block than anywhere I've encounted anywhere else so far. Also they appear to be very busy. I've been to OC 3x now and you can hear the sirens rolling very (almost) regular. Either that or one house makes a "sighting" and calls up the others to share a looky-see. ;) :p

And, to the question about Ocean City being on the Ocean or the Bay? The correct answer is yes. It's on both. I guess you could say that it looks out on the Ocean, with it's back to the Bay.

Someone said Seacrets is a waste of time. At my age, it is.

Fire Dept. is certainly a First Class operation, 6 Stations, 4 on the Island, Talbot St, 15th St, 70th St, 125th St. and two on the Mainland, Golf Course Rd. and at the Airport on Rt 609. Fire is all Volunteer, EMS is Career with Volunteers running extra units in unusual or MCI situations. Fire Apparatus is mostly New, with a couple of older pieces that are kept because they fit into tight spaces. All of the fleet is very well maintained, and operated by some of the best trained Firefighters and Officers anywhere.

We'll be in town on June 16th to the 23rd, along with about 10,000 other Fire and Rescue folks for the 115th annual Convention and Conference of the Maryland State Firemens Association. If you're anywhere close (East of the Pacific Ocean?) drop in. A great event.......:D :D It's a lot like Firehouse Expo, Fire Rescue International, etc, except it's FREE.

But, all said and done, not a bad place to spend a few days.

Dennis I kinda disagree. Maybe because I'm closer to AC, but I think OC is way more friendly and fun than AC, espeicaly when it comes to the family. And I think the violent crime rate is much lower for OC. But than again I only get down there a couple of times a year and I get to hear the AC crap all the time.

Seacrets is a little pricey, but when you only get to go there every once and a while it is a nice retreat, at least during the day. At night I'd rather try someplace a little more secluded.

I must say as well, it amazes how OCFD is all volly. Those guys get busy in the summer. I don't know where they find the time.

OC or Myrtle you go stumble out of the bar drunk and get beaten and robbed by a visiting biker, AC you stumble out of the casino drunk and get beaten and robbed by a local hood, same result. ;) Of course happens year round in AC, only during the warm months in the other two places. :D

Dinner, we visited Embers and Hoopers. Quantity and Quality were high (both were Prime Rib and Seafood buffets). Only real nightspot was Mackey's out on the deck. That was alot of fun. NO, Fruitland's stuff is White over Red. The Chief's Car is a beautifully restored 1958 Ford Station Wagon. The Gentleman who drives it in Parades served as Chief back when the Car was in regular service. When it was replaced by a Suburban type vehicle in the mid 60s, the FVFD kept the Ford and later had it restored. They now have several command units, but the Ford is still useable, with everything working perfectly, except they did not put an 800 trunking radio in it. (Grab a portable and.......) :)

just think... i have to work there! all of those idiots you were with on that bus are the same type of morons that get so drunk they can't even flinch. i have the address to seacrets memorized i mean it's just rediculous!

Do you have that many calls to Seacrets or is it more of people who have already left the property??? I've never seen any fire/EMS responses there.

i would say that during "most" summer weeks... there are at least 10 calls and up to 20.

When we're in town, we're there for a week to ten days. I can agree that I hear calls to Seacrets occasionally.........

Hooper's is OK and I can't say anything bad about them. If you want to try other crabhouses and don't mind a little travel, check out the Old Mill in Delmar, Red Roost near Whitehaven, or Crab Barn in Long Neck. The Red Roost would be the top local crabhouse on my list.

...but if you like scrapple, you got to go to Bridgeville!!!

I'd like to see some of these folks trying to find Whitehaven. I'd bet that only about three posters here know about the Whitehaven ferry......:D :D

I am almost afraid to ask, but curiosity has gotten the best of me. Seacrets? Is that like a restaurant? sounds kinda shady to me  If it is a restaurant, I have a feeling the happy meals aren't for the kiddies -- or those with bad hearts.

Seacrets is probably the largest and most popular night club/bar in OC located at 48th Street on the bay side. They also have a restaurant and the food isn't bad. It started out as a small tiki-bar in the late 80's and grown to what it is today. I think there's 16 bars and 5 stages, with the most popular being in Marley Hall, especially if you like to bump and grind, and grind, and grind.

Shady???..no!!! But, what happens at Seacrets, stays at Seacrets...

Their website is www.seacrets.com
