A couple years ago with Reidland Farley, just outside of Paducah,I was wondering why it is that people go outside after hearing about a burn ban,and the wind is blowing hard and somehow figure that today is a good day to burn off those dead leaves and grasses.
The record for grass fire calls that I've seen for one day is 7 and most of us were over the limit for calls in a 24 hour period.
I'm definitely glad their Chief is recovering but he was at risk because of someone else's error in judgement, from my point of view.

Hope the Chief is doing well: Guess I'll be the ass who wonders what "protective gear" he was wearing as it seems to me from the video that the others were wearing street clothes. Speedy recovery chief.

I sure hope the chief is doing fine and makes a nice recovery. This is a good reason why we wear ppe starting from the chief down! It did'nt say anything about him getting burns on the legs right? So maybe if he had this stuff on he would'nt be in the hospital right now.

Injured Linwood Fire Chief Update

A Hart County firefighter is in the University of Louisville Hospital with severe burns.
Linwood volunteer fire chief, 56-year-old Danny Pippin suffered first and second-degree burns while fighting a grass fire Wednesday, March 7, 2007, on Highway 357 in Hart County.
One of the firefighters on the scene said the fire moved so fast, it took them all by surprise.
“We had run out of water and I had went to get the tanker. When I turned back around to look, it was completely engulfed in flames. You couldn’t see the truck the chief or nothing,” Linwood fire fighter, Denny Shelton said.
Several different departments were called to fight the fire. Michael Rosa, one of the fire fighters, said it took about seven hours to get the fire completely under control.
A family friend said Pippin is recovering and should be out of the hospital in a few days.

But it was just a grass fire...
Get well soon Chief.

Glad to see the chief can come home soon. That has been a long stay in the hospital...
