1.) Electric Generating Plant 4 880mw units, We burn coal, more than any other plant. At one time the largest in North America.
2.) We do Fire, Confine Space Rescue, Haz Mat, & Medical
3.)All 22 members of our Emergency Response Team are volunteers, They have other core jobs they perform. They are Operators, Electricians, Mechanics, Fuel handling employees. I am the only person who works "fulltime". I am responsible for making sure training is scheduled and attended, Their equipment and the procedures are up to date.
My volunteer job (fire chief) helped me get this job in 1998.

1) We are a pretty large facility consisting of 23 individual operating units, including 3 power plants, water and utilities units, 2 barge/ship docks, 3 tank farms, a railroad department, and various other ancillary service facilities. There are approximately 1,500 company employees on site and anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 contractors, depending on what kind of construction or turnarounds may be going on at any given time. We produce a variety of chemicals including hydrocarbons, plastics, and various specialty chemicals.
2) We have a full time Emergency Services & Security (ES&S) department. Our shift staffing is 4 (3 technicians plus an Incident Commander...that's me), plus a handful of day staff (administrative roles). We spend a large portion of our time doing security work, but our primary mission is Emergency Services. We are all EMT-B, HazMat Technician, and certified in confined space/high angle rescue and water rescue. We operate 2 ambulances, 2 Pierce industrial pumpers, a haz-mat truck, 2 rescue/patrol boats and various other equipment (skid pumps, hose trailers, 4-wheelers, etc.) We are also supported by a volunteer brigade consisting of approximately 100 company employees who we can call on for manpower and who attend most of the same training (they are not required to be EMT's or HazMat techs, for instance).
3) We are in-house (company employees).

1. We are a major biotech company in California. Some bad stuff on the grounds, but not to bad.
2. We do, EMS, Hazmat. Fire is done by local FD. We have a strong rescue trained team, but thankfully never used it. Confined space is done by outside company.
3. We are a strictly volunteer team. One individual runs the program, x-FD, and thinks we should work more like them, and less like a conpanies ERT.

I'm in a different boat- I'm the Training Manager for a private company that provides Fire Officers and Rescue Coordinators for industrial sites.
We currently employ 32 firefighters (They are fulltime employed by their agency and work for us between shifts, days off, etc)
We currently service 2x refineries, 3x chemical plants (of various sorts) and are about to start providing into a steel works plant.
Their roles vary from site to site, but as a general rule, the Fire Officers oversee the fire safety side of things, manage the various contractoes that maintain the fire systems, issue hot work permits, perform JSA's, etc
The Rescue Coordinators are generally employed during shutdown maintenance work and as the name suggests, they coordinate rescues. They are heavily invovled in all confined space entries and work at heights, development of rescue plans (written up weeks before the entries or work is undertaken and then reviewed as part of the permit issuing process). They also issue various permits (such as CSE or hot work, etc) and also perform udits of the work throughout the works.

I work at a large Petrochemical plant processing approx 4.2 million tons of Crude Oil per annum. We have a number of processing units including FCCU, Alkylation, Hydrodesulphrisation, Isom, Ultrafiners / Reformers etc..We have 64 tanks including 10 x 80,000 mtr3 crude storage tanks. We also have 10 LPG spheres.
We work a 5 shift system, with 1 Shift Fire & Safety Officer (SFSO) and 4 Auxillarys. On days we also have a Chief. All the SFSO are also on call from home via bleepers.
Our primary role is fire & rescue however we are also involved in health & safety. We carry out all the safety training for the site and conduct permit-to-work auditing. We also oversee accident investigation. We also share resources and equipment with other neighbouring plants.
We work directly for the company.

1. Chemical plant (VCM, EDC, Cl2, Caustic, power generation)
2. Fire, first response (barely EMS), hazmat and rescue
3. In house and contractors. A few volunteers, most of the members are required to be on the ERT based on their job. The emergency response is second to their plant position.
We have 1 engine, 1 aerial, 1 hazmat truck, 1 haz mat trailer, 1 grass unit (it is pretty useless).
Total of about 70 ERT members, 11 or so per shift.
I am the ERT Coordinator (Fire Chief).
