I guess this is a good place to start. I'm not new to FF, I was a FF for 3 years before getting into law enforcement full time. Didn't have time to do the FF thing so I left the department. Now that I'm not in law enforcement full time anymore I've gone back to a department.
My first department was fairly small, only about 2K residents and we might have answered 300 calls a year if we were lucky. It was a good department, just not very busy. We did manage to buy some new equipment and a few new trucks while I was there, so it wasn't all that bad.
The department I'm with now is just awesome. We cover roughly 26 square miles, and answered about 3300 calls last year, and were off to a good start this year with 177 calls last month. We have 12 full time FF, and around 30 Vol FF.
