Probation???

im 20 years old and am wanting to start a career as a firefighter, im takin some classes at a local community college to start off... the thing thats really bugging me is.. im on 2 years summerary probation for having a wet-wreckless on my record, its not formal or anything, this happened over a year ago. i was young and stupid, i know. theres nothing else on my record at all, how would this impact me during the hiring process??

Need a little more info. What is summerary probation and a wet-reckless? Not being a smart ass, just never heard those terms.

As far as I know a wet reckless is a driving reclessly, under the influence. So if that's wrong, then please correct, it will be easier to give you an answer that way.

yea, its wreckless driving with alcohol involved, i was off roadin with some friends a while ago in the desert :\ dumb me. summerary probation is like, i just have to obey the laws n such, i dont have to check in with anyone or anything.

The best thing you can do is don't try to hide it. Most departments reckonize mistakes. If you fail to put it down on a job application...they will find out on a background. Most depts can forgive a mistake if you learned from it....they won't forgive a liar.

Also if asked about it in an interview...come clean..say you made a mistake, you learned from it and don't intend to repeat it.

You certainly didn't help your cause, with your past indescretion, however don't lose faith. Although you technically broke the law, the crime you commited, is not that overly horrendous,considering you were off road at the time, None the less, you've used your "get out of jail free card", so from now on,be on your best behaviour,and you'll need to go the extra mile,at everything you do from now on. good luck

oh 1 more detail, just for the record my BAC was only .03, i wasnt drunk or anything just underage.

It shouldn't ruin your chances. The most important thing, like it was said above, is to be honest about it. It was a stupid mistake, but not that major. Everyone does stupid things when they are young.

Just tell them the truth. Tell them that you were young, immature and made a stupid, one-time mistake. Tell them that you would never do anything like that now because you take your career (being a firefighter) too seriously to do anything to jeopardize your future. They should be understanding. I know a lot of people that have been hired with worse things than that on their record.
