Does anyone know for sure if reporting to the New York State Office of Fire Preventions Information Management System , (Electronic BFIR) meet the requirement of reporting to NFIRS? The 2006 AFG Guidance document says we are required to report "through established reporting channels" Is this one or not?

The OFPC website states,"The New York State Fire Reporting System is the central data collection mechanism for more than 1,800 fire departments in the State. Incident reports from the fire service provide essential information about fires and their causes and consequences, as well as descriptive data about the many other types of emergency services fire departments provide to the community. The data can help the fire service devise ways to do its job better and help the community at large improve its overall fire protection system. It is possible to use fire data to draw conclusions about the adequacy of fire and building codes and consumer product safety and to measure the effects of fire safety education programs"

Should be. We report to TX State Fire Marshall here, and it is supposed to bubble up the food chain to USFA.

I am from NY. We have recieved this year our third grant, Not Bragging. But I have not had any corospondence from AFG about not reporting. I talked right to Albany about this subject. They told me that they yes do forward all reports on to NIFIRS. I don't think you have any thing to worry about.

I checked with an AFG specialist when we were administering a previous grant. I was told that the reporting that we New Yorkers do through the OFPC does qualify. If you're doing that reporting now, you should be fine based on what I was told. I would re-verify with your specialist to be sure but the forms that we use are NFIRS forms, OFPC should be passing that along.

Thanks everyone for feedback on NFIRS reporting, we received 10Q's (Pearl Harbor Day) so we are out quoting and preparing for an award hopefully in January? Not a day of infamy for our dept., but a great day of celebration. We have been reporting to OFPC and did the same on our 2004 AFG award. I never officially called and checked so I wanted to make sure we were compliant. Merry X-mas
