Like many of you here I aspire to be a firefighter.. I have a question regarding my background.
When I was 19 I was charged with a misdemeanor for petty theft and my representing attorney stated that after I did my community service hours it would be taken off my record since it was my first and only offense.. i'm 22 now and i just found out that it's still on my record.. i've been dreaming about becoming a firefighter and i want to know if that conviction can ruin my chances. I plan to apply with the San Francisco Fire Department in late 2007, when the filing process opens. Any one with the SFFD out there I can talk to? .. there isn't much on the application process on the web.
The Good:
Always excelled in school and played sports throughout.
I just graduated from an EMT course and I take the registry exam on the 19th.
I work full time as a security officer (6 months) and part time loss prevention staff (3 months).
I completed the NERT program for the SFFD.
I was selected to complete SFPD's Citizen's Academy in February 2007.
The Bad:
Petty Theft misdemeanor
one speeding ticket, one failing to yeild to a pedestrian
what are my chances? honestly? does the misdemeanor automatically disqualify me?
