I said I'd write this in another thread but can't find which one it was in to add it in there.
To the tune of Big Bad John, by Jimmy Dean. The sausage guy. :D
Every morning I wake up,
And check online,
Hoping not to see those few little lines:
the Dear John.
Dear John, Dear Johhhnnnn. Bad Dear John
It wasn't much of an email
Just a few little notes
'Ya didn't get your grant'
That's all they coulda wrote
the Dear John
Dear John, Dear Johhhnnnn. Bad Dear John
We didn't get past the computer,
That much I can tell
And with the help of Tequila Shooters
I'm gonna drown my sorrows well
over Dear John
Dear John, Dear johhhnnnn. Bad Dear John
They're coming to take me away haha....

We're talking American Idol material here!!! Platinum albums, recording contracts, shaving commercials and stuff.
I wonder if most of the readers even know the song Big John...your dating yourself Brian....Still it's a hit in my book!!!

Is this ballad a tale of recent events or are these sorrows some that have been drowning for a couple of days?

Nothing recent as in today. Out of the 257 I did we did catch some on the 14th, but only 22 that I know of. Might have some others that haven't said anything yet.
Not dating myself Tom, I'm still hanging onto 32 until the Ides of March. :)
Grew up hearing this as the 'older' country in the late 70s/early 80s. Now they have a classic country station in Houston, playing all the good stuff like Jimmy Dean. They run the songs through the web too, www.countrylegends971.com so you can catch them anywhere.
By the way Tom, shoot me an email. Got a question for you.

I don't think that would happen Bugle, I'd be trying to check out Shania the whole time, not singing. :D
And considering I'm tone-deaf, probably a good thing I wouldn't be singing. Unlike most folks even when I'm many sheets to the wind I'm still sober enough to know I can't sing. ;) No karoake here.

Yes, back in the day when they taught Shakepeare in school. Say Caesar to a high school student now and they ask what salad has to do with anything.
No Kurt, not even our good friend Jack can get me on stage to sing. Stand-up comedy maybe. Singing won't happen. Ever. :)

Actually I'm 24 but was actually taught stuff in history class. Actually I think it was in my latin class that I first learned of not only the name of the ides of march, but it's importance.
