You need to be a EMT-B to be on the ambulance. A first responder cannot do certine protocala as a EMT. Are you looking to ride in the ambulance or as a adjunt to being a FF.

Your own department should lead you to what training that you will need. They may or may not have different levels of training. Picking which level will depend on your time restraints. As a bear minimum, you should be taught First Aid and CPR. The next level up might be First Responder or EMT-B (or 1) (your state desides what it is called).

I commend you for wanting to learn the EMS side of the fire service. We are running more and more of these calls every year. Good luck on your studies.

Our company no longer hires people with training less than an EMT-B.

It depends on the department you are with. Check with them.

I am a first responder going to school come Jan to become an EMT and here in Fla that is the basis first you become a first responder then EMT then a paramedic if you want to but for me I will leave it at EMT, but from my duties back in the 70's I am licensed to give shots, stitches too and just love it the type fop work and adrenaline rush we get too so i am starting this Jan to become an EMT with training at our fire academy instead of he Junior college it is better their and I also know the instructors and know they push me for just one more do it harder too and I will give it my all but that is what I am doing for me. heart rescuer
