Collinsville has new monitors

Collinsville Fire Dept. has received six new Zoll E-Series monitors. The dept. received $135,000 from the Fire Act Grant for the purchase. This is an upgrade from the Zoll M-Series that are currently being used.

New features we haven't had before are NIBP and EtCO2. The new monitors are also biphasic defibrillators, which is an improvement from the monophasic M-Series.

Chad, your guys wouldn't know where to start with these things. Heck, I heard you have a hard time turning out of the station in your tanker! ;)

DJ, what you have at MVFD is what we got rid of before the M-Series. Do they have you running EMS again? They seem like they are going to be good monitors. I'm ready to get one on the rig and find out for myself.

The next thing down the road, hopefully within a year, is electronic documentation.

Did you like the M? We have them i think they are worthless for field use. Always have artifact and the auto b/p always gives some off the wall reading. We have had them calibrated, techs have looked at them. I hope the new ones work for you guys, on a side note did you guys see the video for the E series? the salesman wouldn't let me run it over with the rig... :)

Mike, is that Fire Act money from last year or this year or something else? Carlyle was announced last night that they're recieving $104,000 for Operations and Safety. Not sure if that's left over money, this year's grant, or Fire Prevention and Safety money.

Our Welch-Allyn NIBP/monitor has been acting up a bit. The fuse fitting keeps coming lose so it won't charge or have power sometimes so we'll get a low battery alarm. Maybe it's time to get something like yours. I take it the Zoll is good at absorbing the bump and grind of being in a vehicle?

And by the way, I'll let you know that I can get the tanker out of our station on the 3rd or 4th try! :D

Yeah are back to running EMS, but not like before. Now we are doing ALS first responder only. Pt. care is transferred when the private ambulance service gets on scene. Its a lot more common way of doing things that what we were doing, but that common does not necessarily mean better. We are still looking at transporting, when I say we I mean the firefighters, not the city. Its still a LONG way off though.

The M-Series was OK here. It didn't seem to be built well for EMS. I think it's more of a hospital monitor that they tried to modify for the field. We destroyed a lot of cables and pulse ox sensors. The cables on the E-Series seem to be a lot more "beefy", or heavy duty. We had occasional artifact problems too. We also sent ours in a lot for the artifact problem. We didn't have auto BP on the M (only manual BP), so I couldn't tell you about that. I didn't see the video, but the sales rep told us about one being run over. He did drop it on the floor from about eye-level.

I believe that we were awarded this money in the 3rd round of '05. I don't know what Carlyle got. BTW, their new station looks really nice.

I don't know if Zoll makes a vitals monitor. Like I said in my previous post, I don't think the M-Series was made to withstand the wear-and-tear of the EMS world, but the new E-Series appears to be tailor-made for it.

That tanker is big enough to just knock sh** out of the way, so don't sweat it. :D

I think your union should adopt a new stance: Anytime you see a city official, grab them by the shoulders and shake the sh** out of said official.

You need to get those boxes on wheels in your houses. Ambulances=JOB SECURITY. Plus, the city may actually make sure you have enough manpower to staff them!

DJ, what's the feeling like now with EMS since another ambulance service has moved in? If it's too hot to comment on here that's fine. I was just curious how that was working out.

We are running the M-series Zolls here in Rockford. We have (13) of them front line on our ALS Fire Engines and Trucks. We also have (3) of our five ambos with them. This was a huge improvement for us, the boxes used to have 10-15 year old Hewlett Packards and the apparatus used to have 10-15 year old Laerdals. We would like to get our last two ambos furnished, but once again we are on a budgetary hold for equipment.

Our equipment motto is similar to the Cubs, "Wait til Next Year".

Actually there is no real significant difference with us in regards to the other service. They don't run 911 so we don't see them. Every now and again someone will request them and they go, but no problems. I guess they are doing well enough just doing transfers and such, but I honestly do not know!
