Too.... hot..... to....... type.....CR. :D Went to Holiday World in Indiana Saturday and the first thing I told one of our "newbie" Lt's was to call plenty of mutual aid right out of the door if we have a call because it's way too hot to go at it alone. Fortunately we didn't have anything. Supposed to be close to 100 here Wednesday.

I am here! Been busy and have not taken time to post much lately.
It's a good afternoon to work in the home office because it's hotter than h@ll out there. If this heat keeps up and we don't get any rain we may have to change our names from flatlanders to wastelanders.
Watch the heat and take care everyone.

CR, you're up north - near the north pole, right? It's "cooler" there than down south.
Like Chad said, near 100 all week down here.
And for the record, I've contributed a few times the last couple weeks.
Chad, you're giving the orders now?

CR, I'm glad you qualified that by refering to the French portion of our citizenry by spelling Canadian "Canadien"! Otherwise I might take it as an insult HAHAHA :D :p
Hope you're all having a great summer!
Jack ... long time no talk!
Marty, If you ended up in Illinois by taking a wrong turn at Albuquerque, you're in bigger trouble than you think ;) :D :D :p hehehe

Chlorine leak
33 taken to local hospitals following Sunday incident
By Mike Lyons

Over 900 people seeking relief from torrid temperatures at Kankakee's Splash Valley Aquatic Center were evacuated Sunday evening when chlorine fumes drifted across the popular water recreation facility.
Some 33 people were rushed to city hospitals complaining of breathing difficulties, but all were treated and then released, said Kankakee Fire Chief Ron Young.
Alarmed by the telltale bleachlike stench, park personnel alerted the Kankakee Fire Department shortly before 6 p.m., said Young.
"There was the smell of chlorine, which smells like bleach in the air," Young said of the situation which greeted his fire/rescue teams upon arrival.
"All the patrons were gathered in the northwest corner of the park. They wanted to prepare for an evacuation so they gathered them there, an area that would have been out of the wind," said Young.
Young said his fire teams triggered alarms which brought up to a dozen extra ambulances to the scene. A countywide hazardous materials team was activated as well.
Fire teams donned breathing gear and entered a building containing stored chemicals, but no leaks were detected.
Daily Journal reporter Lee Provost, attending with his family, said the food court was closed around 2:30 to 3 p.m. and the lap pool was closed around 3 p.m. due to cloudy water that made it difficult for park personnel to monitor swimmers.
It was unclear today if those occurrences were related to the apparent chlorine incident.
Kankakee Valley Park District Board President Derek Denoyer said a defective pump is being eyed as the possible cause of the leak.
"It's speculative right now that we had a short in one of our pumps (and) that's being investigated this morning by our staff," Denoyer said.
He said it is possible Splash Valley may reopen today, but "we're going to keep the water park closed until we know 100 percent what's going on."
Fire/rescue teams were able to leave the scene by 7:30 p.m., said Young, lauding the performance of emergency responders.
"I'm more than satisfied with the way it went," Young said.
"I think the firefighters and the officers as well as the hazmat team and other responding units did a great job. Training pays off."

Darin.........Darin........Dar in.....another bites the dust. Congrats.
Just thought I'd borrow that from the other thread. Mrs. J and I will hit 29 years in September. And it's been a pretty good 29 years. Laurabo got married in May, DJ gets hitched in August. Mom and I will be all alone. Then again, we've been all alone for a couple of years already.
Getting back to the summertime theme, more storms are scheduled for Thursday this week. Just what we need. We have had the AC off for the past 3 days. Pretty nice weather after the 100s we had.
I've heard that Washington and Jefferson counties are also disasters. Both got hit pretty hard. I drove through Clinton County yesterday and I've been through Washington and part of Jefferson. They look pretty much alike - trees, tree limbs and power lines laying around all over. It's surprising there really wasn't that much structural damage and very few injuries. Could have been much worse.
i want to throw this out for consideration. Our county dispatchers toned out fire departments Friday afternoon, but failed to make any voice announcement. It should have been an announcement about the tornado warning that had just been issued for the county, but they got "busy" and didn't get a chance to talk into the mic. They didn't answer my personal radio calls to see what was going on, didn't answer a call from our main station to see what was agoing on, but did answer a phone call from our Asst. Chief. That's when we found out the dispatcher "just got too busy" to say anything to us. Probably talking to a cop, the heck with the firemen. Ain't that a crock?

Jack, that is just plain BULLS#!+. If your dispatch is run by the county sheriff, I would definately meet with them and voice my concerns. Too busy?? Maybe they were too busy because the cops were pulling over the firefighters who were racing to the station not sure if the county was blowing up? How busy do you need to be that you can't say, "Attention all firefighters, we are under a tornado warning?" Gosh, I bet that'd take all of about 5 seconds.

You know; it would take me about, oh, that long to call the 911 coordinator for a come to Jesus meeting.
No way am I taking "got too busy" as an excuse.
In fact; I'm not accepting any excuses at that point.
I am looking for assurances that it won't happen again.
"Crock" doesn't even begin to describe it.

I'm with Jay. Only takes a couple of seconds. Bet they never forget to tell an officer that a perp might possibly have a gun.
Here's one for you too. Ever since our 911 system consolidated their dispatching equipment several months ago to one location, I no longer get our tone at work. I will hear the other 2 departments tones that share our dispatch center but not ours. I'll hear the voice announcement of our call but no tone. I've been told all three of our tones comes off the same tower here in town where I work and it shouldn't be any different with regards to signal strength but it apparently is. I've complained for months to anyone that will listen that something is not "right" with the system but either the radio company can't figure it out or no one cares and is doing anything about it. It's not just my workplace either and my pager only. I, and other members, have been at various places around town, the grocery store, Wal-Mart, etc. and all we hear is the voice (if I'm listening closely or have it turned up) but no tone. Now when we're at home in our district which is 6-10 miles from the dispatch center, we will pick up the tone which is sometimes far from clear. Go figure. As a matter of fact, one the departments that use this dispatch center invested in an automatic recorder that records their tone and the announcement when issued from dispatch which then plays in back over their radio system several seconds later. There's no doubt in my mind that the old equipment, albeit 2 sets in 2 different towns, was much better than the system used now but now I'm afraid we're stuck with this. Thoughts?

It sounds like something that could happen here, only we may have not even gotten the tones! Don't get me started on dispatchers! They may have to lock the thread.
