Released from the Attorney-General's Department yesterday-

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Tony Pearce to the position of Director General, Emergency Management Australia.

After a ten-year career in the RAAF, Tony Pearce served in the Victorian Ambulance Service from 1990 to 1999, first as a paramedic and team leader, then in operational management roles in the metropolitan and rural arms of the Service. He was appointed five years ago as Deputy Chief Officer of the Victorian State Emergency Service, again with operational management responsibilities. After two years he moved into his current role of Director, Emergency Management and Security, Office of the Emergency Services Commissioner (Victoria).

These previous positions mean that Mr Pearce brings a wide range of experience in operational and policy roles in emergency management to his appointment at EMA.

Mr Pearce will commence with EMA on 14 August 2006.
