A blaze of suspicious origin destroyed a vacant farm home south of Greater Kankakee Airport late Tuesday morning.

According to Kankakee Township Fire Chief Matt Hubley, a blaze discovered at 11:30 a.m. destroyed a vacant farm home belonging to Eddena Hissong.

Hubley said the house was completely ablaze when firefighters arrived. Firefighters battled to keep the flames from damaging nearby outbuildings.

Hubley noted that two firefighters were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.

Fire teams remained on the scene until 4 p.m. A backhoe was used to move debris to allow firefighters to hose down hidden hotspots, Hubley said.

Witnesses told police that several youths had been seen in the vicinity of the home earlier in the morning.

Ken McCabe, chief of Kankakee County Sheriff's Police criminal investigations, noted the fire remains under investigation by the Kankakee Valley Fire Taskforce.

No injuries resulted. No loss estimate was available at presstime today.

Hubley said fire teams from Otto Township, Kankakee Township, Chebanse Township, Bradley/Bourbonnais, Limestone Township, Herscher, St. Anne and Aroma Township responded to the scene along with a Provena St. Mary's ambulance crew.

That's a wee bit of fire

Are the trees and bushes as close as they seem? Lucky they didn't go up, if they are

And now my customary beep beep beep - civilian chick warning ... :D

Is heat exhaustion ever considered an "injury"?
