So I was up in Chicago for the past few days for all that testing fun, and while I was up there I picked up a copy of that book on the Chicago firedogs that someone wrote a few years ago. Great book.

I got in to pull my shift at dispatch and as usual for a Sunday night, it was boring as hell. I decided to google Chicago firedogs and a few sites I came across said that the number of firedogs in the city is in a steep decline. Why is this? I would think that this would be a tradition that more people would want to keep alive since, IMHO, it's one of the greater traditions of the fire service. (Or I might be biased...I come from a dog family!)

We've kept the leather helmets, why not the dogs?

Any opinions?
