Hey, I'm 17 in Michigan, and I'm looking to be certified as an EMT / Paramedic, Could anyone tell me where to begin, and how / what courses to take?

Thanks!

well you can start off (im assuming you dont have any certs yet) by getting CPR certified, and then taking the EMT-B course. after you go through EMT-B school you can try for EMT-P

Where exactly in Michigan? I live in DeWitt and attend the EMT academy in Lansing.

Just stumbled across this thread. I'm also in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, in Munising to be precise.

pcmxkeith, if you are looking for a place to take an EMT course, you might check out Northern Michigan University in Marquette. Also check Marquette General Hospital's website (mgh.org, I believe it is). Both offer training. Actually, here's a direct link to a page describing the hospital's EMT training:

You might also ask your local ambulance service whether courses are ever offerred locally. I've just finished a six-month EMT course put on in Munising by the sheriff's department. Cost was very reasonable, it was incredibly convenient to have the course locally (no travel is good!), and it turned out to be a great way to get to know the undersherif, several of the deputies, and a bunch of other local, volunteer fire and EMT people.

Good luck. Keep in touch.
