Yeah, they are called kids. You would be amazed at the types of contraptions I came up with as a kid climbing trees. Lets just say I was a lucky kid I used to rig up rapelling gear without really knowing the knots. A simple swiss seat and loop the rope up over a branch climb up and ride down. I got pretty confident about climbing really high, I think that confidence kept me up there.

On the flip side it looks like these guys are running a reasonably safe operation, except for the 2 carabiners to connect the belay line into the climber.

It's pretty fascinating to read up on the Arborist's tools & techniques (that's how I stumbled on that site).

One thing is they've worked as an industry pretty hard on an ANSI standard (their counterpart to our NFPA stuff) specifically for the Arborist's industry...including not only how they cut trees and such, but also how they rig ropes, knots to use, etc and they try to push for safety agencie's to accept their standards in lieu of generic worker safety standards.

Sounds kinda fun, but I prefer the rock stuff to the tree stuff.

Does sound pretty fun.

Can't wait for this weekend, renting a cottage in Southern Ohio and doing some rock climbing and rappelling with my family and a friend. Not huge stuff, but for Ohio its pretty darn good.
